There's quite a lot of "it'll do" on the leaderboard.

2006 has been better than that suggests, I feel.

Compare this year to 2002/2003 (NOW! polls as evidence) and it seems really lacking.

Even a 'non Top 40' poll for this year is unlikely to turn up anything that spectacular.

Bizarrely though if I had to do a Tracks of 2006 list it would stretch well over 50, probably to 100 easily. But hardly any of it has been released as a commercial UK single.

Yes - my main yardstick revealing that 2006 is totally great is that I can't keep up with all the good stuff and there's always something new to listen to. This is a permanent state of affairs => music is ALWAYS GREBT!

this is the limitation of the Top 40 these days innit.

i'm still finding it a lean year tho but i've not caught up on a lot of stuff yet.

i expect 'Ain't No Other Man' will end up among Gnarls and Nelly. what other tunes are likely to do well in the near future?

as well as the podcasts maybe people should post their own listening charts more (on their own blogs). i'd certainly appreciate them.
