Last week Brian and his Beach Boys nabbed the most votes for 1966 with Good Vibrations (edging out Nancy and Mick'n'Keef) whilst Tom Jones was consigned to the Bin Of Oblivion!

2001 was PACKED with number ones! We've got a Sclub Children In Need song, debut singles from Bunton and Bedders, and a plasticene builder doing the Mambo. Tick away!

'What Took You So Long?' is so lovely and wistful and breezy!

Why has J-Lo been absent from the Nows?! She is wonderful and a litmus test of popism. She has many many more great songs than you initially think (bolded below):

4 Jennifer Lopez If You Had My Love Jul 1999
5 Jennifer Lopez Waiting For Tonight Nov 1999

15 Jennifer Lopez Feelin' So Good Apr 2000
1 Jennifer Lopez Love Don't Cost A Thing Jan 2001
3 Jennifer Lopez Play May 2001

3 Jennifer Lopez Ain't It Funny Aug 2001
4 Jennifer Lopez I'm Real Nov 2001
4 Jennifer Lopez Ain't It Funny (remix) Mar 2002
3 Jennifer Lopez I'm Gonna Be Alright Jul 2002
3 Jennifer Lopez Jenny From The Block Nov 2002
2 Jennifer Lopez featuring LL Cool J All I Have Mar 2003
11 Jennifer Lopez I'm Glad Jun 2003
3 Jennifer Lopez Baby I Love You Mar 2004
1 Jennifer Lopez Get Right Feb 2005
6 Jennifer Lopez featuring Fat Joe Hold You Down May 2005
2 LL Cool J featuring Jennifer Lopez Control Myself May 2006

Madonna Syndrome i suppose i.e. her label don't like to license her tracks to UK compilations much - or NOW! people are just skinflints.

Play, Get Right and Control Myself are the only ones I can hack. 'Jenny From The Block' has a great intro tho. I recently tracked down the sample from that.

What, the 20th Century Steel Band one or the Enoch Light one? Kudos if you mean the latter.

I am ready to wrestle you to the ground and twist your arm (in a playful way :) until you take that back.

I actually HATED this version because it seemed like such a corporate hack job: ooh what group of divas can we assemble to attract the broadest base of fans to help sell this album. Okay girls now bellow. Yuck. Such a good song -- they should understand it sells itself.

Worst year for No.1s ever?

I'm sorry, I'm a tolerant man, but there is no way in hell that Afroman is worse than DJ Otzi.

This turns out to be a good year - lots of 6s and 7s in Popular terms.

I ticked "Queen Of My Heart" by the 'Loife, not because it's a particularly good song, but because it's the best Westlife No.1 that wasn't a cover of something already good and famous. And I have them all, so I know whereof I speak.

wait, isn't Queen Of My Heart' the one that completely 'rips off' 'Mull Of Kintyre'??!

That's why it's good! Their style turns out to be well suited to "Mull Of Kintyre"!

Actually "Fool Again" is alright too.

Those Westlife No.1 singles in quality order

1. Mandy
2. Uptown Girl
3. Queen Of My Heart
4. Fool Again
5. Against All Odds (best song here but v.poor version)
6. I Have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun
7. Swear It Again
8. You Raise Me Up
9. If I Let You Go
10. Unbreakable
11. My Love
12. Flying Without Wings
13. World Of Our Own (Westlife doing upbeat = TOTAL HORROR)

To be entirely honest I've forgotten #9-#11.

Most of them are the same song - IT NEVER STOPPED THE WEDDING PRESENT.

The critical reappraisal of "Rollin'"

Worst rated song in FreakyTrigger history, correct? And yet here it stands with a 45.5% approval rating. What changed?

Time is a great healer. And Fred Durst sucked my c&ck for my vote.

Also, the MP3 we used for the focus group was really really shitty quality so the song sounded even muddier than usual.

The turning point for me was Ethan playing it at Club Popular, though.
