This shall be a post where we talk about all the other songs that "Long Hot Summer" sounds like, in pieces.
I can gmail it to anyone who wants it, obviously, but it is at this state just a radio rip that I can gather fades out during the line about ricocheting around the world drinking pink champagne. STILL! YSI link later, perhaps.
As far as can be told:
1. This is the FOURTH best Girls Aloud single ever. I prefer it to "Love Machine" and am anticipating being the only person who says this.
2. While it has the same pieced together from state of the art disparate bits as "The Show", it actually does sound like the same song all the way through. Brian Higgins has gone slightly more classicist GA on this one.
3. It sounds a bit like "Androgynous Girls", but with the skitter of "The Show", the bababas from the original mix of "Some Kind of Miracle".
4. Other songs it reminds me of: "I'm A Tree" by Imani Coppolla, the radio edit of "Shake Me" by Mint Royale, loads of others, actually. The prechorus reminds me of "Who The Hell Are You?" by Emma Bunton, too. (Some straw-clutching going on here).
5. Nadine raps, and sounds like Betty Boo, a bit. BETTY BOO!
6. The closing section, where the girls call and response with this nice jangling riff is the best GA outro since "No Good Advice", it's just a bloody shame the radio rip CUTS IT BLOODY OFF AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH.
So, great, then.
