I Love #1s - 1990

Hi dere campers. We're really missing them Now polls, aren't we? So here is a new semi-regular feature (that probably will end up having a crossover with Popular but what the hey) where we find out if the record-purchasing public agree with Poptimist poll-tickers!

I am randomly starting with.. THE NINETIES!

[Poll #757044]

FACT : They are all good except for the Beautiful South!

FACT THE SECOND : 'Saviour's Day' is the 3rd best Christmas song of all time after 'A Spaceman Came Travelling' and 'I Believe In Father Christmas'.

i've never understood the hate/mockery of Barnes 'rap' in World In Motion. there's really nothing wrong with it.

Urgent & Key

[identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Concept moderation request: start with 1990 by all means, but let's not do ALL of the nineties before moving on. Let's jump around from year to year in random fashion. You know, like Jimmy Saville's Old Record Club on R1 used to do. (Or maybe you Young Persons don't know.)

1973 next?

Interesting historical fact

The start of the decade saw the UK's first 3 rap no. 1s - all came in 1990 (Snap!, Partners in Kryme, Vanilla Ice).

Hard on Sir Elton

[identity profile] blue-russian.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
As I recall, "Sacrifice" was actually his last memorable, melodic song for ten years, up until he did that stark album and got Britney and Justin and Bob Downey to be his video stand-ins. Sure another crappy ballad, but at least it came without an animated film.

'This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore' is very close to being good, mind you.
