I will use this post to ask then: I need a new young person's mp3 plyer as mine has just died. Which one should I get? I am aware of iRivers and iPods, so what else is good/bad? I want a 20gb+ one, with as many extra toys (esp recording) as poss. Choice of colours is also welcome, as is being as cheap as poss.

I've had one of these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000E3U4JU/qid=1150383575/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/203-7401915-1802312) for the past few weeks. I'm pretty happy with it so far although the touchpad control's a bit fiddly. The reviews suggest there might be some software issues but I've had no problems syncing via Windows Media Player. Other colours are available (but only on the facia, the rest of the thing is white).

Hmm. Do you have to use special software to put stuff on it? Can you not just plug it in, and it mounts as a hard disc that you drag and drop files onto?

Don't get an iPod. They suck (http://www.bythom.com/apple.htm). Whatever they claim the battery life to be, you can expect it to be roughly half that, sometimes even less. I've heard mostly good things about iRivers although darkpigeon's one has recently broken, and he's had to send it to Germany to get it sorted, which is a pain.

daniel_hill had has a 20GB Creative Zen since February 2005 and he seems pretty happy with it.

Other than that, I don't know what to recommend. A PSP? Music player with added extra features like Pro-Evo, fillums, etc.

had no probs with my ipod personally but then before that i had an Archos Jukebox with a battery that ended up dying after just 20 minutes - if it could be bothered to charge at all.
