Those scores in full - and we have a clear winner:

[livejournal.com profile] umlauts: 7
[livejournal.com profile] carsmilesteve: 6
[livejournal.com profile] the_roofdog: 6

Well done [livejournal.com profile] umlauts, especially since he is Australian and therefore didn't even hear some of these masterpieces.

And now for the ANSWERS:

1. Which was the first ever Comic Relief single? This was Cliff and teh Young Ones.

2. Complete this lyric: "And the Christmas bells that ring there…" ARE THE CLANGING CHIMES OF DOOM. Best line ever except the next one.

3. The Crowd's "You'll Never Walk Alone" was released to raise money for the victims of which tragedy? The Bradford City stadium fire. It also raised money for Heysel victims, that second tragedy happening in the same week the record was released. The Hillsborough charity No.1 was "Ferry Cross The Mersey" by Gerry Marsden et al. This is in some ways a good question but because everybody gets it wrong it might be seen as a bit tasteless, so I might cut it.

4. The best-selling UK single ever is "Candle In The Wind '97", the proceeds of which went to the Princess Diana Memorial fund. How many copies did it sell in this country? The answer is B, 4.8m, all you pessimistic lot thought it was much more.

5. Which US celebrity has written a song "From the Bottom of my Heart" for the victims of Hurricane Katrina? Michael Jackson, "bless" "him".

6. Which current band recorded a version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" for last month's War Child charity album? This would be the Kaiser Chiefs.

7. The following comedians have had hits for Comic Relief - which is the odd one out? The answer here was D, Peter Kay, cos he wasn't actually on the record. Both the Mel and Rowan songs didn't get to #1.

8. The first ever charity record is thought to be the Concert for Bangla Desh album from 1971. Which rock star organised this event? George Harrison.

9. "Love Can Build A Bridge" got to No.1 in 1995, yet another Comic Relief effort. Who were its three lead singers? Half point if you get two. The dream line-up of Chrissie Hynde, Cher and Neneh Cherry.

10. Which band released the album Pictures Of Starving Children Sell Records in 1985 as a protest against Band Aid and Live Aid? Chumbawamba. And yes, [livejournal.com profile] katstevens, they really have been going that long. :(

Coming next: THEE BITS AND PIECES ROUND No.1 (assuming the MP3 works)

I seemed to have missed this through being good and spending yesterday in the library. Also our interweb keeps breaking at home. Sadly not when C is online buying appliances (well that is probably quite a good thing I guess) but when I am trying to catch up with ljchums.
