Spent a little time the other day tidying up the gargantuan Rough Guide index I compiled from three ILM threads in which people submit compilations of whatever nature they felt like doing or were necessary.

It's a (potentially) great portal and I only wish it could take you straight to the tunes themselves - but then again part of the fun is 'catching them all'. Truth be told I still haven't sat down and assembled any of these myself, not even the ones I contributed (about 30 or so), but like I say, the potential remains.

The guide continues to be updated and modified. Some sort of wikipedia style open-contribution system for it would be cool (but then all too easily abused perhaps).

Well it needs to include the Osmongs etc because Brit girls went so mental over them. It also needs to include the ROLLERS tho.

I wouldn't include A-Ha. You seem to be defining "boybands" as "bands with cute boys," and although A-Ha were cute, they seem very different from the rest of the list.

If you include then, they of course you must include Busted, no?

Yeah, this was the pre-Busted/McFly era (or *just* into the Busted era).

A-Ha were included cos

a) they were the nearest my wife ever came to a boyband crush!
b) to promote "Touchy!" (a longtime cause of mine)

They have a foot in and out of the genre really.

& the other one I can remember contributing

Woo, that's ace, especially the 'Wu-Tang In The 21st Century' one, which has alerted me to the existence of something called:

Raekwon f/ Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck - Musketeers Of Pig Alley

I thought I'd include their version (which is BETTER, and I wuv Wire) and put Lowdown on instead as they managed to get away with ripping off that.

I remember finding this really hard to do - either I became uncomfortably aware of HOLES where there should not be HOLES in my memory/awareness/collection, or I just had such a surfeit of goodness to choose from (eg Golden Age of R&B) that I simply couldn't narrow it down.

A Rough Guide to Grime would probably a) be totally ace and b) not have that much left over to be honest, though.

Haha, I contributed the 'Dutch rock' one. The 1960s choices are solid, but the 1995-present ones are...questionable, to say the least. But then what do I know about rock?

I promised to do Dutch pop and Dutch dance, too, but never got round to it.
