So a FOUR-WAY FITE to become top poptimist brain. But how will the scores appere after round 2 (to be posted in a minute or two).

Meanwhile the answers:

1. What is the current UK No.1? Push The Button, by the Sugababes, most people got this.

2. The Beatles first got to No.1 in the UK in May 1963. With which single? From Me To You. Please Please Me in the loser unofficial charts, but no points for that.

3. What do New Order, Status Quo and the Lightning Seeds have in common? Football No.1s. Since the quiz was about No.1s, "football songs" will do but NOT "World Cup songs" cos the Quo's was "Come On You Reds" for Man U.

4. Elvis Presley has had most UK No.1s. The Beatles come second, and Cliff Richard third. Who's fourth? It is indeed the mighty 'Life.

5. Which of these bands has never had a No.1 single? Bon Jovi.

6. Who got to No.1 in the UK charts with the single "Take On Me"? A1 - A-Ha's original got to #2. Yes it's an TRICK QN.

7. The controversial video for Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Two Tribes" featured the American and Russian leaders wrestling. The American leader was Ronald Reagan - who was the Russian? Chernenko - well done if you got this.

8. What is the biggest-selling UK single never to reach number one? This would be "Last Christmas" by Wham. Second is "Stranger On The Shore" by AckXoR Bilk and 3rd is "Blue Monday". Might make this one a multi-choice for my colleagues.

9. Not counting Band Aid releases, what was the last Christmas No.1 to actually mention Christmas in its lyrics? Mistletoe and Wine, back in '89.

10. In 1977 the Sex Pistols' "God Save The Queen" was kept off the top spot by Rod Stewart in the Queen's jubilee week. It was widely rumoured that the chart figures had been doctored to keep the Pistols off No.1. Which market research firm was in charge of running the charts at the time? BMRB, the cheaty cheaty cheats.
