OMG in Now 49 we had...a DRAW! And a draw of two songs with great big ticky ratings at that! And poor old "Survivor" one point behind, with a score that would have walked 9 out of the last 10 polls. I feel as overexcited as Davina pretending a phone vote is close! Make yr choice between S Club and Outkast after you've voted in THIS Now poll, which kicks off with perhaps the iconic modern pop song and has a host of other 'talking points' - I expect plenty of Lexular squealing and much HEATED debate. Debut tracks from Sophie E-B, Five (late in the game!), Alihen Ant Farm, So Solid and a couple of French robots you may be familiar with...

EDIT: And how could I forget THE MOST ROMANTIC SONG EVER MADE?

My DJ Otzi story

Went to see (awful) Moulin Rouge, and they played DJ Otzi - which I hadn't heard - as the in-between film and loads of people sang along. I assumed that Baz Luhrmann had specified that this song be played as part of the feature presentation, and that the people singing along were Rocky Horror style fans who had already seen the film several times!

My DJ Otzi story = the 13 Kosovan guys who lived below me when i lived in Shepherds Bush would play 'Hey Baby' loudly two or three times every single day. Along with Kylie. SO I'm guessing this Now! CD was the only one they had, but they had all these good tracks from it to play and didn't. Bastards!

Are your views on this film detailed somewhere else on the interweb? I really would have thought that you'd have liked it. It's about pop! and how brilliant it is! In particular how does disliking square against your intention to go see Mamma Mia/one of that crowd?

The Nirvana bit was quite important to me just because it wasn't very important to the film, it was just "look, here's a hook!"

I was all ready to blog a BIG RANT against it the next day. But I went and saw it on Sep 10, 2001 and the next day there seemed to be other stuff happening.

I really hated it, and can't actually remember why. I think there are ILX threads about it where I go into more detail.

Yeah fair enough. slightly back on-topic I remember that Slave 4 U had this big extravaganza (I'd say the superbowl halftime show but it obviously wasn't) with a snake and Britney just the week before as well, after which it dropped out of sight for a while.
