[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
As suggested by tehNipXoR (below). If anyone did a "here are the hot new poptimist sounds" i would totally get this. it is easier for me to listen to a podcast than radio. in fact i DO listen to more podcasts than radio.

i reckon something like 40-60 seconds of songs banged together (i think they call it "mixed"???) inexpertly would more than satisdy me - perhaps with a "DJ voice over of the info" if you must (tho computer generated speaking would be fine) and we could put the info in the RSS feed proper anyway (which i know on my iPod you can read while listening)

I think FT could afford to publish the mp3 files and RSS feed needed.

***update***
sod it, if there are other people out there who would at least listen to a poptimist podcast, i am hereby volunteering to put it together. Given a load of mp3s from various sources it would take me mere mins to join em together and update an RSS feed on FT. This could be great - given an audience who wants it :-(

Me aussi - I could probably contribute a few scoops, too. I think as Steve suggests it should probably be named to avoid the connotations of spodcasting - The Poptimash-up, praps?

Ah. No I have no MP3 player. I am quite backwards. I am unable to download anything, as I can't do it at work, and can't really listen or watch anything online either. The modern world is passing me by.

Question as yet unanswered: do other mp3 players on yr computer do this automagically? Cos iTunes is a bazillion shades of wack and I refuse to have it anywhere near my work computer.

I don't know the details now, but there are many programs out there that let you subscribe to podcasts (which simply means monitor and d/l new ones when published).

And what's being d/l-ed is just a long MP3, so whatever yr player of choice is (portable or on yr computer) should work.

surely a "podcast" is just an mp3 though innit. thuse those without mp3 player could just download and burn to cd or listen on their computer...

The thing that appeals to me about a podcast would be the ability to just set it up in the background so I could d/l automatically, without reading post and deciding if I'm interested, clicking. But just another source of music alone isn't so interesting.

To jump ahead to the orgness: Maybe the feed could be published on a Friday, but the LJ thread/post started on Monday to chat about it? Because nobody scrolls down, y'know.

thursdays, usually being so close to fridays, are rarely 'crap' for me :)

my initial thought was maybe publish feed on monday, thread on friday. i guess if you're going to take charge of publishing, the question should be what is likely to be most convenient for you.
