[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
This is a round of questions I have prepared for my work quiz on Weds. The theme is Number Ones. ALL TRU POPTIMISTS should find this peasy and not need Google, apart maybe from hilarious j/k qn 10. The official version of the charts in the GUINNESS BOOK is the one I'm using.

However I am screening all replies so I can announce later which Poptimist has the hugest brain. Try to do without Search Engines.

1. What is the current UK No.1?

2. The Beatles first got to No.1 in the UK in May 1963. With which single?

3. What do New Order, Status Quo and the Lightning Seeds have in common?

4. Elvis Presley has had most UK No.1s. The Beatles come second, and Cliff Richard third. Who's fourth?

5. Which of these bands has never had a No.1 single?

A: The KLF
B: Bon Jovi
C: Iron Maiden
D: Stereophonics

6. Who got to No.1 in the UK charts with the single "Take On Me"?

7. The controversial video for Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Two Tribes" featured the American and Russian leaders wrestling. The American leader was Ronald Reagan - who was the Russian?

8. What is the biggest-selling UK single never to reach number one?

9. Not counting Band Aid releases, what was the last Christmas No.1 to actually mention Christmas in its lyrics?

10. In 1977 the Sex Pistols' "God Save The Queen" was kept off the top spot by Rod Stewart in the Queen's jubilee week. It was widely rumoured that the chart figures had been doctored to keep the Pistols off No.1. Which market research firm was in charge of running the charts at the time?

I will field potentially hilarious guesses in lieu of actually knowing the answers, since I am a) seventeen and b) lame.

1. Who knows?
2. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"
3. All members are men.
4. Isn't it something ridiculous like Mariah Carey? Oh, wait, she's tied for most U.S. singles with The Beatles. (That's depressing.) I dunno, then. Robbie Williams?
5. I will say Bon Jovi based on nothing except I hate his new album's cover art and also the state he's from doesn't have a state song so this would be his luck, totally.
6. I KNOW THIS ONE! It's A-Ha! I WIN
7. I will guess "Gorbachev" since he is the Russian leader in the Ray Stevens video for "Back In The U.S.S.R."
8. I give up!
9. This quiz makes my heart hurt.
10. 8==D
