"Fly" starts with an eerie piano tinkle lifted from Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" (proving that Hilary is an goth, though not as gotherific as Avril and Kelly) and Miss Hilary in achingly, gorgeously thin voice singing "In a moment everything can change/Feel the wind on your shoulder," and continues on with full shanksodioguardian kiddie-pop romanticism not unlike "Come Clean" (whose video had a room full of candles, hence more goth credentials), 'cept on "Come Clean" the rain is falling down to wake her dreams and to wash away her sanity, while in "Fly," on a presumably clearer day, she exhorts us to fly, to open up the part of us that wants to hide away.
