i can't hear sound on youtube at work so i just spent about an hour last night going thru each video at home. it was a quite a gruelling process, but worth it for Delays and Ms Church :D - oh and the Freemasons video has some luvvly ladies in it too [/weblech]
I checked out the songs that looked interesting on stevem's list last night on youtube (in the end I just did my own searching rather than fiddle with those URLs). I didn't think to listen to Delays or Freemasons tho (or Madge, which wasn't on the list IIRC). I'll check all 3 out tonight.
ha, yes. now that it's clear we can hear most of these songs on youtube (with video), there's no real need for me to put links up anyway - they're quite easy to find.
but people don't really bother do they? the amount of 'not heard this' these polls accrue just shows how estranged most of us really are from modern pop, whether by technological restriction (no internet at home) or social commitments (i couldn't download and listen cos i was out actually clubbing etc.) - such is the privilege of the pop-picking adulto.
but if 'not heard it' is the defining mantra here, it means these polls will never be as satisfying as the Nowstalgia polls, which is a shame. but then again, even when we were all 12 how many of us really knew the songs coming in at #37 half the time?
I am sure I've heard a lot more than I'm making a tick decision on, because I listen to the radio a lot - but in the background, and it's very rare for the DJs to say what they've played. My listening to current pop is still high - my ability to match names to tunes apallingly degraded.
there's just something frustrating about it all. i mean i'm frustrated with myself, as well as the music!
i'm actually fine if it really is just that there's less good pop in the charts now but i don't really believe that so want to hear everything that gets in, to make sure for myself, and to cherry pick the ones i personally like.
but what about the ones that DON'T make the top 40? basically i want to hear EVERYTHING that gets released when it does, if not when it surfaces online. and there is still no decent way to do that, unless you buy Music Week, scan the list of releases and buy every single one!
and then what about stuff outside the UK? AIIIIEEEEEE (*goes mad*)
I own a domain name that could be put to good use for a site that offers audio clips of every single released every week (the archived for posterity) with systems (thinking) in place to root out the good ones (via user rating and so on). the only difficulty would be getting permission from each label, and actually collecting ALL the material. but am well game for it.
