January's Top 40 Singles poll saw apparently everyone's favourite indie-pop stalwarts Belle & Sebastian clinch the top spot with 17 ticks and 54.8% of the vote, with Jose Gonzales, Mylo ft. Freeform Five and Will Young all languishing in joint second place with 13 ticks each. A traditionally weak month there, but things are starting to hot up a little in February, maybe?

it's about LINDSAY LOHAN, how could it fail to be anything other than AMAZING*?

BUT!

'Over' > 'Boyfriend' > 'Wake Up'

I do like all of those songs, though.

'Speak' > 'Beat Of My Heart' > 'Pieces Of Me'

(the only song I don't like of all those mentioned is 'Over')

You DIDN'T like 'Over'?!

Maybe it takes a few listens but it totally grew on me - it has that Kate-Bush's-singing-face-karaoke-in-the-mirror quality, plus the ridiculous metaphysical poetry "tears turning into time" chorus!

'Pieces Of Me' is a bit rub, tho. What about 'L.O.V.E.'?

'Pieces Of Me' has one really good chord change, I don't remember 'LOVE' but I'm pretty sure it's not as good as the Christina Milian song by the same name.

I reviewed 'Over' for Stylus back in the day do you not REMEMBER my disappointment? It's OK but 'Nobody Til You', 'Speak' and 'First' are better from that album; "I wanna come first" >>>> metaphysical poetry any day

'L.O.V.E.' is the second single from the new Ashlee album and was released only a couple of weeks ago, it was on a couple of musical channels but never really hit the radio, I don't think.

It's pretty good, the chorus goes "L-O-L-O-L-O-L-O V-E!", which makes it sound like she’s singing 'hello-hello-hello-hello V-E!"

I need to get up to speed on American pop. Maybe I should just go and buy the collected works of these three great artists of our time.
