The big news on Now 44 is the first appearance of Britney, on a highly pop-centric compilation. Beyond that we have a host of solo Spice singles, Steps, Shania, S Club and a great deal of pop-trance. I would write more but I'm a bit busy - anyway it's an intriguing selection and I'll look forward to seeing what you make of it.

Now 43 was clinched by the Chemical Brothers, leading Basement Jaxx by two votes and "Coffee And TV" by five.

what tom sez about britney "because of that bridge to the last chorus". this tropetrick was much copied afterwards, but what are the antecedents?
