four teen novels revolving around music just purchased by my library! which ones would you read, Poptimists?
(1) Mum carries around an industrial-size bee in her bonnet about my passion for music.
'If you put as much time into your schoolwork as the hours you spend with your records, you'd be a genius,' she tells me.
Another of her favourite lines is, 'DJing isn't a job, Zoë.'
This second statement clearly reveals a gaping hole in her knowledge of the music industry . . .
Zoë Lynch is obsessed with becoming a DJ, but discovers it's not just her mum who stands between her and her dream. The male-dominated music business doesn't exactly open its arms to an aspiring fourteen-year-old girl DJ.
Will her determination and the support of her friends, Keesha and Becky, be enough? Will the grungy Rix from Tune Spin win the award for Most Patronising Creep in the Universe? And will the gorgeous Josh Stanton ever acknowledge her existence?
(2) SHE BANGS! SHE BANGS!
Miranda was the quiet type . . . until she moved to Austin. Home of the hippest college rock bands, Austin, Texas, is a scene. And Miranda is dying to break out of her small-town shell. So she decides to do something totally un-Miranda: learn to play the drums.
When crashing the cymbals, the girl's a wild child! Plus there's a perk to her new gig: a cute bass player. Unfortunately Mr. Bass Man isn't exactly looking for love. Can this rocker chick change his tune? Or does finding her own rhythm mean sacrificing true love?
(3) Sex. Fame. Rock 'n Roll.
Four kids on the fast track to pop-rock superstardom reveal the unfiltered truth about the glamorous, backstabbing world of sudden celebrity.
Introducing . . .
The Voice: Sweet, trusting Kendall sings like an angel - and is about to discover her devilish side.
The Body: Rich, spoiled Wynn can't keep a beat to save her life. But with curves like that . . . who cares?
The Boss: No-nonsense Stella is all confidence, attitude, style, and smarts. But her relationship with the band's manager makes her more vulnerable than she thinks.
The Boy: A/B has got real talent. Now if only he can keep his mind on the music . . . instead of on the girls.
6X Idolise this!
(4) Former social outcasts Chloe Miller, Allie, and Laura are stoked when a talent scout from Nashville spots their all-girl garage band at a local gig, and Redemption is skyrocketed to contemporary Christian pop stardom.
But they find out fast: Fame comes with a price tag. People aren't acting normal. Suddenly everyone wants to be their friend. Clashes at school and with family members start spiraling out of control.
So how do we know who is who, Lord? Chloe cries out in her journal. Is it feeling, faith , or fact? Give me discernment!
Exhilarated yet frustrated, Chloe puts her dream in God's hands and prays for Him to work out the details. Can the band - or their friendship - survive this? God only knows.
(please feel free to list more, &c!)
