They have now started to say it's about drugs, I think this is because they want to jump on some kind of 'drugs' bandwagon.

When I was at school, saying "Ah, but it's NOT really about drugs, AHHHHH, DO YOU SEE?" was what all the smug, think-they're-clever kids did. It shames me to say that I was one of those kids.

Oh oh oh now I have remembered what started this whole meme originally i.e.

"Isn't it ironic that 'Perfect Day' got to #1, god I wonder how many of the idiots who bought it knew that it is really ABOUT DRUGS."

(PD being a good example of a song that is actually quite lovely and mysterious if not about drugs and is hugely trite if it is.)

hmm i think this then coalesced with the "there she goes/golden brown is about DRUGS you know" smartarsery and then mutated into "no song 'about drugs' is about drugs" except cocaine by eric clapton which is about heroin.
