Group G Final Results

Switzerland missed out on the second round by the narrowest of margins last night after a last-minute France goal enraged fans and left gaffer braisedbywolves gutted. At 90 minutes the Swiss were going through having fought a brave rearguard action to hold the rampant Group G winners to a draw - or so it seemed. Then the referee signalled an astonishing seven minutes of injury time and it was in the sixth of these that a rampaging France run finally drew blood. France end the group with an 100% winning record and their fans were singing manager atommickbrane's praises last night. The Swiss camp were less impressed, however: "That amount of stoppage time is ridiculous," one source close to the manager said, "The game should never have gone on so long. It seems that if you talk in capitals enough and spell words funny, refs bend over backwards to help you.".


Togo fans in party mood.

The result means that Togo's comfortable win over South Korea sends the African side through on goals scored. Togo bounced back from a defeat by France and were in upbeat mood as they dominated the hapless South Koreans, whose vocal support failed to disguise obvious deficiencies on pitch. Korea have endured a disappointing world cup and go home without a point - commentators back home have suggested that boss darkpigeon should have spent more time on training in the studio. Togo meanwhile have performed above expectations and stevem78's canny tactics have won him a lot of respect. Togo will face the winners of Group H, whose final group stage games begin tomorrow.

While we salute the bold and deserved victories of our rivals [consults paper] revolutionary France and wack karoake puppetshow Togo we have lodged the strongest possible protest at the quality of refereeing in this tourney, which has lurched from the meh to the pah by way of the wah. Besides we saw a show on our hotel TV about how hard it is for refs in the sundays leagues last night and fervently decided that no way rosé were the bald coots we've seen on the pitches to date up to the kind of harassment that reactionary tradition now demands. Er where am I? Oh yes, the sperms sequence at the start of O/G CSI -- omigod decadent west or WHAT! We will so bury you!! [Bangs shoes on head]

you see brian, at the end of the day, the swiss just didn't have enough pop nous to push them over the line. it may be the sort of tactics that get you far in these minor indie leagues of central europe, certainly no problem for the qualifying rounds when up against andorra (one man and a banjo) and the newer eastern european nations (scorpion a-likes or DEATH/GABBA/HARDCORE), but they're with the big boys now and they'll have to develop their skills before they can look to go further in the big time...

This is incredible result but I am delighted with the team because I know at this point in time they gave it their all, 100% as that is the most anyone can give. I am literally over the moon but our hearts go out to the Swiss who we enjoyed competing against, a v good team to watch and we wish there was some way we could all qualify.

We hold hands and dive at our fans repeatedly like wot Korea did in 2002.

ha, when you come up against my mighty AngolaSaudi Arabia in the next round, we will expose your 100 so called % for the slacking that it is. Now that our team are allowed to actually use a ball (the previous manager thought that was too boring and conventional) and some of the players are allowed to venture more than four feet from the left touchline, our tactics are coming together nicely.
