The Friday Canon: GOTH SPECIAL!
Feb. 24th, 2006 02:42 pmSo we've done modern pop, we've done classic pop - let's go a bit indie, I thought, and then I thought, this is LJ after all, so today's Friday canon spotlights an individual dear to many of your hearts....

YES its FAT BOB and his Cureists. Some people think the Cure are a bunch of fannies, but even those people tend to tip the hat to a few classic singles.
Here are all the Cure's UK Top 40 singles. In an attempt to find, by poll science, which are best, we would ask you to select a generous SEVEN for inclusion in the Friday Canon.

Date: 2006-02-24 03:38 pm (UTC)The first LP they're not copyists at all AFAICR, it's spindly new wavey stuff. And yeah as a singer Bobmug does not cleave to IC or Barney. But the sounds of their 2nd and 3rd albums are JDish I think, and then shortly after NO started doing the expansive Ceremony-style pop they moved onto doing stuff like "Primary" which is quite similar, and THEN "The Walk" is an outrageous Blue Monday clone, and then quite suddenly they found an entirely workable style of their own.
But maybe this is all hindsight!

Date: 2006-02-24 03:49 pm (UTC)i think this is a an i-word issue to be honest -- even if i couldn't put a name to it or summarise it well, i think bobmug's project has been his own from the first*, and (to me) the fact that he uses elements NO possibly came up with merely introduces inflected elements into the bobmug project
hahahahahahaha
