Personally I can't bear to listen to live singing on the telly. It *always* sounds rubbish unless eg you are Aretha Franklin.

it's possible i may have to comment properly on this later but the puff piece for this on the culture show last night was APPALLING AND WRONG IN EVERY WAY. the only people who came out well from it were the bloke from TOTP who said "but most of them sing live and mime playing, what are you doing ot do them EH? EH?" and, ridiculously, OASIS for their unswerving dedication to MIMING whenever they are on totp.

Out of interest what was the last useful thing the Musicians Union did? I guess they must do a lot of good grass roots stuff with eg bands on cruise ships getting shafted, but their public presence seems invariably busybodyish.

well they of course do work on mimimum wages, but for this to apply to you you have to "prove yr a musician", which has gone thru many r0ck1sT contortions over the years as u can imagine

i have to say that my hugest niggle w.em is not KEEP MUSIC LIVE itself -- even tho most jukers are better than most bar-bands, i think the nurturing of decent bar-size live venues is a public good -- but the HIDEOUS COLOURS they chose for their propaganda sticker (not that clear in this blurry pic luckily):
