Enormously rich and meaty hip-hop that has big bursts of sunshine coming out of nearly every bar:

We all know this one, right? Here's all 9-and-a-half minutes of it again anyway:
3) Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart
Even if you don't like Alicia's other stuff, give this epic laserbeam ballad a go. At the very least watch the embedding-disabled video, in which Alicia brings a dead dog back to life with her superpowers whilst wearing a purple jumpsuit.
2) Tinie Tempah - Pass Out
My personal favourite of the year: on his first number one record Tinie manages to rap about his aunt, The Hills, Jean Claude Van Damme and the perils of trying to find Scunthorpe with an out-of-date A-Z.
1) Janelle Monae - Tightrope
Well done Janelle! Proving that bow-ties are even cooler than we thought they were, Janelle tops the pops and beats Tinie by just 5 points. It did pretty well over at Freaky Trigger too!
