It's MIA's new single, 'Born Free'!

(The proper video is rather NSFW but it's hanging around on Vimeo if you want to find it there.)

I really want to be smug and tell you I've heard the album, but that would be annoying... (The next single is a pop song, though.)

I guess it's a single cos of the video. Which I don't want to watch! It sounds horrid!

I haven't really listened to the song per se except as part of the video, but I enjoyed it! I thought it was pretty good. I don't know what the director has against gingers, of course, but the whole aesthetic of the video seems very indebted to Punishment Park.

Just reading the synopsis I could see all of the DO YOU SEE elements being very annoying.

It's possible that I really like the song because I've never heard anything by Suicide and should go and listen to them instead. But it goes "Wooh!" at the beginning!

I AM SO FUCKING EXCITED!!!

I do rather like it, it's very early-90s grrl-core noise-making, which I LUFF, but I think it's lacking some of her trademark humorous quirkiness. Hence both brilliant and disappointing.

Still, a poor M.I.A. track is usually miles better than most everything else.

You should, but not just for that reason.

I have never liked an M.I.A. song; is there any likelihood this will change this?

I loved Elsa the lion when I was a kid

Darn it, you really made me think this was going to be a cover!

Nah, probably not!

It is but it's also amazingly shot and weirdly beautiful at the same time

No!

It's horrible, horrible. And at lunchtime, someone left the video playing on their computer in the office I'm working in after they had left for the canteen, while the radio was still on, which created a truly diabolical din (maybe that was the idea – thus spreading madness throughout one of the world's most evil corporations. Or maybe just annoying me).

In what universe is this a lead single?

A universe that contains that bird flu thing?

It takes a while to make up its mind to be a rock song, but once it does it's one of her best ever, almost as crass as Ke$ha's "Blah Blah Blah," though not as good.

It is the closest she's come to metal, however (or to techno, same dif), though you've got to wait a minute and a half until it rumbles into true rockingness.
