Stylusgeddon

CURSE ME FOR A FOOL for giving Richard Hawley a 6 and pushing Schnappi into 4th place.

Blah blah rich croon blah blah Scott Walker blah blah Johnny Cash, that is the bloody last time I do my blurbs on a Sunday morning, it turns my faculties to mush, I heard Hawley in his NATURAL HOME of Radio Indie this morning and he sounded like the boring old shite he is.

Ahem.

Could we have been any more patronising to poor old Mark Owen, too? :)

Poor Amerie and Rihanna :(

You're all mad for loving the Mark Owen, it's unbelievably irritating!

I like Sleater-Kinney! And I think 'Jumpers' is the best song off the album.

I was convinced Richard Hawley would be one of your 0s!

So was I, until I heard it!

I was about to say "I never mentioned the strings" except checking back, um, it appears I did :(

Is David Meller secretly David Mellor?

As much as I think it's brilliant, I am amazed how well the Mark Owen single did. The single mix is quite a bit worse than the album version, sadly. I probably should write something about the album, because aside from the Bluetones-tastic "Makin' Out", it has a song that really should be covered by JC Chasez on it and a quite astonishing ANGSTY BALLAD too.

do you think you could write about the Mark Owen for PITCHFORK? i think it's right up their alley. no seriously....

[identity profile] umlauts.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
One of my evil plans at one point was to create a fake persona, post on some boards, write a blog here and there, and see if Pitchfork would hire me. Sadly, that plan fell by the wayside, along with my plans to do a blog about music done using the medium of hypothetical Anal Cunt lyrics, and my plan to do one where I scrutinise in painstaking detail the failure of every indie touchstone to be any good, and my plan to drink more while writing my Stylus blurbs.

I am amused by the way that every week the Lex makes an establishing reference to a track that I've never heard of (This week: Move Ya Body and 1 Thing)

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
'Move Ya Body' = biggest summer jam of 2004
'1 Thing' = biggest summer jam of 2005!

I assumed it would be something like this (is there a certifiying authority that declares them the biggest?), I was being amused by my out-of-touchness, rather than at you.

Where would I have heard them? Pop radio, R&B radio, in the (R&B) club, in a different club, from every third car that passed? I'm not actually taking the piss, I'm curious.

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Pop radio, clubs, cars, shop radios, music channels, TV, mp3s...I am certain you have heard them though you may not know the (fairly generic) titles.

Yeah, I'm feeling a bit wracked with guilt at how "aw, pat him on the head" my Mark Owen blurb was.

We should do like, an end of year Jukebox Stycast with the top ten singles of the year, and a different person from the panel doing the blurb for each one.

[identity profile] thejivesession.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
there be more than ten of us. if you refering to the top 10 on the spreadsheet then i dunno if i could be roused to enthuse about any of 'em thou i'm sure i liked some of them at the time.

[identity profile] juror8.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, so what we'd probably do is just get the ten best reviewers to do the cast, and then you wouldn't have to worry about it Paul.

[identity profile] thejivesession.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh I truly feel the wrath of stylus' gonzo legend. i'm just saying the top 10 is an average, it may not reflect the feelings of certain people. anyway i get comment box love from the fuxxors so phhhhnnnnner to you.

[identity profile] ferg-or.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
On THEIR side, are you?

Maybe if we had roughly the right number of people willing/able to do it, we could just get them to do one for their favourite single, regardless of where it placed.
