Ladytron, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem and Mylo go through (check out our electro credibility!), along with t.A.T.u who win the Heat #1 run-off. However the girls are in ANOTHER run-off for heat #2, this time with Kanye! Gosh you lot are indecisive sometimes :)

On to business: who the hell nominated Lisa Scott Lee for Heat #3?

  • You get SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll, unless you told us all your new favourite (and why) from the last heat. Put your new favourite in the box below and get an extra tick for the next heat - do it for five or more heats and get an extra nomination for 2006 (unless I think of something else to do in 2006).

  • The top five in each heat will go through to the next stage. Make sure you rep for your faves in the comments!

  • If you want to fill in the 'best song I only heard today' box later, change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • You have until Friday lunchtime to vote.

[Poll #1529464]

Extra ticks this heat go to [livejournal.com profile] meserach, [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus, [livejournal.com profile] koganbot, [livejournal.com profile] braisedbywolves and me.

Prins Thomas in this heat

"Flavoursaver" doesn't seem to be on YouTube. Might be on spotify I s'pose but I'm not bothered either way as I want to save the track for some future Orgafun really, keep some element of surprise y'know?

Here's (I hope) Feel AM however. Gooodness knows what "[LBP-PSP]" is though. Hopefully the vid isn't NSFW or a piece of cult propaganda/brainwashing or anything.

Rich Boy "Get To Poppin"; produced by Brian Kidd, who throws giant chemical drums at our heads and simultaneously hypnotizes us with a Mexican chant, while Rich Boy sways with the thunder. As they say on YouTube, the beat is SO FUCKIN SICK MAN damn:

Daddy Yankee "Gasolina":

Lindsay Lohan "First":

She used to be a girl who could let a guy breathe.

AGREEEEEED.

(I am STILL smug about catching on to it half a year before it blew up internationally. Because I am JUST THAT MUCH OF A LAMER. :))

I haven't gotten over this one for ONE MOMENT since hearing it back in '06. I can't even really pinpoint what it is about it that makes it so special -- I mean, the parts are plenty amazing: all the eerily unsettling background details that crawl under your skin, the beat that stomps with grim determination, John Foxx's impeccably disaffected vocal; but the sum is SO much greater even than all that.

(The video edit isn't quite as effective as the full length versh, inevitably, but said full length versh isn't on youtube, alas. :/)

All that said: aagh how horrid is this heat? NOT ENOUGH TICKS. D:

(And I suspect I am the one responsible for the Lisa Scott Lee! I REGRET NOTHING.)

For a while Denver had its own "Hurban" station (Hispanic urban), which played "Gasolina" regularly, also the Pitbull remix of "Get To Poppin" - I like "Get To Poppin" even more than "Gasolina," the contrast between Rich Boy's roundabout drawl and the tight twist of the sample.

Don't we have enough stuff through from the assassinated archduke already? I didn't get to vote for much of the 2003 polls but I have looked back and you let through half the album which I cannot understand as "Take Me Out" is surely the only thing they have ever done of significant worth?

MUST QUALIFY MUST

Easily one of my top ten songs of the decade, The Long Blonde's masterpiece.

The Long Blondes are all about the exquisite misery of being the other woman.

"You're pretty oh so pretty
Why waste your time just sitting
here listening to that dead-eyed bitch?"

It's glamorous, mascara-dripping female-fronted guitar pop. Please, please give it a listen.

For K-Maro, I only have something that professes to be a [Remix]. Let me know if it is wrong.

Also seven missing, sadly - none of the below appear at all:

Mikkel Metal - Dorant
Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas - Feel AM
Shy FX & T Power - Feelings
Major Swellings (Prins Thomas) - Flavoursaver
Rich Boy - Get To Poppin'
2Pac ft. Elton John - Ghetto Gospel (?!?!??!? no idea how they don't have this)
Delinquent ft Shad - Ghetto Queen (number of tracks called this but none of them seemed to be right...)

I can't really endorse the Lohan here - it's just too artless, shouted more than sung.

Thanks, I imagine I'll get some use out of this, as half of my four (!) ticks were 'oh yeah I recognise this'.

K-Maro's Femme Like U is AWESOME and deserves at least a few votes - it's a catchy, funky, sexy song, and it's all about K-Maro's wonderfully husky delivery (and the great Franglais lyrics). This was the biggest hit of the year in all the French-speaking countries (and pretty big in Germany & Scandinavia as well) but criminally ignored back in the UK.

I was hoping more people might remember Nachlader from its appearance in the League of Pop (I think it went down better there than any of my other pics). Anyway - Franco-German Rap sounds like something horrible the EU would come up with. But this is fantastic - bouncy squelchy electropop that really deserves a listen. Oh, and this dodgy live video is all I could find, so not sure it will sound as good (I'm posting this without having heard what I'm posting - this internet caff has no speakers)

I was playing my "Best of The League of Pop" CD-Rs just this last weekend! So much good stuff came out of that bit of orgafun. I'd forgotten how global the picks were too.

I will give "Fett" a tick if Daddy Yankee looks to be home and dry. :)

I've just given Daddee Yankee one of mine (realised I'd ticked one too few) if that helps!

But if I remove my tick it's only 3 ahead of the boring Frank Fergusons

if I've done my calculations right my votes have just edged FF out of the play-off places. Even though this is my favourite song of theirs!

If it's any consolation I really liked this song and gave up my Kanye vote for it. Cheers.

It's very much an excellent consolation, thank you! The point of this process is to share the stuff we like after all.
