Good list. Only Gorillaz and Wheatus are truly awful. Pretty strong year overall?

Suggestion: why don't we just use this as the noms list for 2002 (including all the personal lists):
http://freakytrigger.co.uk/old-ft/essays/2003/01/2002dl3/ ?

It will save an awful lot of time and effort, methinks.

hehehe, not a bad idea, but i think it misses out some stuff that people will want to vote for (even if i'd imagine 35 of the eventual top 40 will be on there at least...)

I've just been listening to The xx, so perhaps it's making its retro comeback in 2009?

(v. important this) I suggest we don't have a 2000 final, 2001 final, etc but jumble up all the qualifiers and pit them against each other. After all, we're trying to find the best song of the decade here (ultimately). And let's face it, the cream of 08/09 is going to be a sorrier bunch all told than the 01/02 qualifiers.

I'm with Jeff on this - mix them up, perhaps even RANDOMLY since we've already had alphabetised stuff.

For 09, we're going to have an EOY singles poll (of course) so I dunno whether or how you want to mesh those...

I think I'll run a Second Chance poll again, too. People enjoyed it last time, right?

Also, the full list of 2001 nominees that were on Spotify at the time of their heat being posted is here:

(Collaborative, so things can be added later by anyone should tracks make it on to Spotify subsequently)

Spotify bats around 75% coverage for these lists in general.

It's a bit tricky tho. The maximum number of ticks you can have in a poll is 45. This is temptingly close to the top 40 we assemble from each given year...

This comment appeared at the very moment I'd done it anyway! :)

In general it feels good to assemble Top 40s!

Of course I am a wuss and when I do the second chance things I always cram a few extras in.
