Robyn retains her place as the Winner who stays on, beating Beyonce by 5.8 to 5.3 - this is a big slide in votes tho. Her challenger this time is one of the best hip-hop singles of last year, getting a belated UK release on the 23rd January and now starting to get airplay: "Stay Fly" by Three 6 Mafia. "Stay Fly" ended up in about a million end of year singles lists and I'm not quite sure how I missed it, laziness I suppose. The appeal is pretty simple and obvious - that gliding, wasted, "Fly-y-y-y-y-y-y" effect, and the gleaming synth chimes behind the verses that give the track a strange kind of androgyny. Numb, shiny, pop.

(As usual full poptimists members should watch this space for evidence)

I can't help but notice the majority of Robyn downvoters seem to be the elder poptimists = parents just don't understand.

Can I suggest the next contender to be 'Tippin' Toxic'?

If "Stay Fly" had come out in March, it would have come about 50 places lower on every list it appeared on. RAISE YOUR STANDARDS, CONSENSUS-FINDERS IT IS ADEQUATE AND NO MORE.

As I noted in my Pazz & Jop comments, "Stay Fly" is a ballad, and ballads suck. ("Stay Fly" is rather good, actually; but not as good as "Be Mine!")

Ahem. Maybe it is just that they have developed higher standards over the years.

Anyway this is easy: black people >>>>> people who take the piss out of black people.

Ahem - can I point out that I am very old indeed and have been giving Robyn maximum marks consistently. I love it unreservedly.

I for one would very much like to see an explanation of this alleged hip hop ballad genre of yours, Frank. I like Stay Fly, but it's going to take something of Girls Aloud/Basement Jaxx standard for me to stop giving Robyn 9.
