I considered 'If You're Going Out...' too, but I wanted to rep for Laura Marling, who's the one emergent British artist from last year whose songwriting specifically struck me. And I put her in the Young Person's category b/c a) she is younger than Wookie or Ny, b) Wookie and Ny are better musically.

So glad 'American Boy' is 6% eligible, what a shitshow last year's No 1s were.

Oh yeah! Doh! I'll just nominate them for everything.

It seems Dragonforce and Iron Maiden are the only contemporary British bands I would consider buying anything by (well, not consider, I just would!). We gotta get out of this singer-songwriter, crappy indie band cycle - I almost bought the new Camera Obscura album, but I knew that would be folly, so bought Neil Diamond's greatest hits for a fiver instead.

Viva La Vida was nominated coz Coldplay didn't flippin' write most of it. (allegedly).

Saturdays - Issues has good lyrics, "Me and my heart we got issues", could work well performed in any musical style.

I must admit I do have this sort of 'ARGH NO BLANK' patch about last year, aside from McFly re: British music. There's stuff I'm aware happened but nothing I quite like enough to go bonkers over, possibly Burial and Wiley aside.
