(this is ORGAFUN)
Right, here are the blurbs for the person whose turn it is to receive a mixtape from each table this week. After carefully reading the blurb, select an mp3 which you think the recipient will a) enjoy and b) not have heard and send it to ME. (piratemoggy at livejournal dot com / televisionmon at hotmail dot com)
If you are unsure which table you are on, please go here and check.
You have until SUNDAY to send your Mp3s. There will be reminders.
TABLE ONE BLURB: (
weasel_seeker)
I am Alexander (weasel_seeker). I would like a mixtape of songs about change, flux, that momentary state of in-betweenness after one thing and before the next when both everything and nothing is possible. Or whatever. My music listening habits have recently tended towards ethereal micropop by divas lacking range, formalist r&b and the girlrock descendents of stevie, courtney, etc. However, I will always hold a torch for meaningfulcore indie music, melodramatic orchestration, and what others would decry as pretentious. A fair bit of country and rap are also always appreciated. Language barriers ain't no thang.
TABLE TWO BLURB: (
infov0re)
I am infov0re and I would like a mixtape that's a bit optimistic andsunny and a bit about being nervous about girls you like and a bit dancey and basically a bit "up". I like emo, house, minimal, and souland funk; the last records I listened to were the Daedalus album, the Doves album, and the De Rosa album, but this doesn't necessarily mean I like bands that begin with D. The last gig I went to was Fall Out Boy in Brighton. Oh, wait, it was Girl Talk, but FOB was better. I also like pop.
TABLE THREE BLURB: (
carsmilesteve)
my name is carsmilesteve and i would like a mixtape about The Current Economic Situation. my favourite bands are belle & sebastian, the wedding present and half man half biscuit but i have all of their songs so would like something DIFFERENT. also SCOOTER ROCK!
TABLE FOUR BLURB: (
strange_powers)
I am Nick and I would like a mixtape for a summer night. Some of my favourite bands/acts are Girls Aloud, The Magnetic Fields, Beyonce, New Order, David Bowie, The Shins and Steely Dan. My taste is broad but I am a bit of an indie beardo at times.
TABLE FIVE BLURB: (
jeff_worrell)
Hello. I'm Jeff. I offered this “theme” in the previous League of Pop tournament, but didn’t really get any takers. If at first you don’t succeed…
I would like a mixtape of pop songs designed for driving along the Pacific Coast highway at midnight with the top down. Whilst the track might have been recorded only last week, it would be helpful if it at least sounds like it dates from the 1970s.
The last five records I listened to are:
Dusty Springfield – ‘Complete A and B Sides 1963-70’
‘Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas’ (first album)
‘G Spots: The Spacey Folk Electro-Horror Sounds Of The Studio G Library’
Enoch Light – ‘Big Hits of the 70s, Volume 2’
‘Thai Funk: ZudRangMa (compiled by Maft Sai)’
Any questions ("You still haven't actually explained this what the hell is going on?" etc.) in the comments, please. :) And good luck!
