Top 50!!!

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
What a dreadful shirt/dress she is wearing. I want to see the rest of it RIGHT NOW

Also appropo of nothing (ie it doesn't deserve its own post rly), the new Lily Allen song contains an awesome song called 'Fvck You Very Much'. Rest of album appears to be her griping about him from the Chemical Brothers.

[identity profile] edgeofwhatever.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh my neighbor was playing it for two days straight; turns out it's impossible to get out of my head. Fuck you very much, Lily Allen.

So wait, do you have the actual album?

[identity profile] nicolars.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so embarrassed for Kelly.

[identity profile] edgeofwhatever.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It gets even worse: her album is rumored to include two shelved Katy Perry tracks. That's SONGS THAT WERE NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR KATY PERRY.

[identity profile] edgeofwhatever.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, one of them is by Kara DioGuardi.

So, yeah, or bad enough. Sigh.

(Actually, no, it's an all right song, and I hope it really will be on the album, because I'm looking forward to hearing what Kelly can do with it.)

[identity profile] lalanav.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL no, I mean - they weren't bad enough for Katy Perry, so she rejected them. "Wot?? I suck! I can't sing this, this would make people think I'm GOOD!"

[identity profile] nicolars.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That is indeed possible.

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Jesus.

'My Life Would Suck Without You'. Is that meant to be...funny? Or an "attitude" signifier?

Also, I think we need a moratorium on lollipops in promo photos.

[identity profile] lalanav.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Are we sure this isn't a wax figure at Madame Toussaud's? Oh, Kelly Clarkson.

[identity profile] weasel-seeker.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
So not a My December 2.0, then?

Hmph. I miss Kelly Clarkson, vengeful rock goddess, already.

[identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Cripes. This makes me nervous.

[identity profile] jel-bugle.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
no kelly, no :(

[identity profile] jel-bugle.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I never bought My December, I feel somewhat responsible.

[identity profile] nicolars.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too, sigh.

[identity profile] dickmalone.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
At this point, I would love if Kelly made an album that would actually go with this cover--some sort of very shiny disco throwback thing with her actually belting over the tracks, unlike most of the nu-disco singers we have today. A Donna Summer for the new millenium.

[identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you should be setting your hopes that high. Max Martin doesn't strike me as "shiny disco throwback." I think we'll be lucky if she doesn't have more than one song about how she can be a TOTAL BITCH SOMETIMES. LIKE A BITCH. BITCH BITCH BITCH I'M A BITCH I'M A LOVER. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLBITCH.

Anyway, Kelly's strongest suit, regardless of what's going on behind her, is more often than not her earnestness, which is what put a lot of people off the last album I think -- it was near-total earnestness less mitigated by killer hooks. (I say "less" instead of "not" because people seriously undersold how hooky My December is.) Not that the two are mutually exclusive, but they're often perceived to be -- this was a stupid narrative that kept getting pushed on her last time out. I'm just hoping this isn't the bullsh1t "reaction" album, in which she decides to throw all hints of seriousness out the window. I don't really trust Kelly's sense of "humor" in her music, though she seems funny enough in interviews etc.

[identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha I distrust her sense of humor so much it even gets SCARE QUOTES.

If only...

I want this Kelly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhCnPiEoYw4

Jeff Beck looks just like he looked in '66.

[identity profile] poptasticuk.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The song is written by Dr Luke, so it should be pretty good. He wrote it without knowing who would sing it and then filled in the words to suit Kelly. She also has new songs by Ryan Tedder, which apparently are influenced by Garbage.

Just looking back at this post, it sounds like I'm sticking up for her, so I would like to make it known right now that I can't stand her and her stupid shouty voice. Ugh. She doesn't deserve either of those great songwriters.

[identity profile] jel-bugle.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought My December yesterday, it's good!

[identity profile] weasel-seeker.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! It's stuck permanently halfway between angry girl guitar rock and American Idol pop hooks, and is simultaneously both and neither, which might have been why neither demographic really went for it in the way that they did for Breakaway. Whatever the reason, after being initially unimpressed, it's continued to grow on me. It's probably one of my favourite pop/rock/mainstream albums of the past few years. The weird little bonus track, Chivas, which almost sounds as though it were recorded on a four track is grebt.
