Date: 2008-12-10 02:30 pm (UTC)It's that the song itself has become a horrible cliche and lost whatever beauty it might once have possessed, so recording what will surely be an EVEN WORSE version will be adding insult to injury.

Date: 2008-12-10 03:14 pm (UTC)For some reason, even though I've been aware how it's become this huge squatting cliche, I've managed to actually avoid hearing it for years. I still like both the Cohen and Buckley versions (the Wainwright I thought was a disappointment at the time), and would like to hear more "interpretations" of it. (Though not by Eoghan Quigg.)

Wow.

I'm not sure what's worse about the song's first verse: that he emulates Roger Moore only because of the rhyme scheme (if he'd found a rhyme for "Connery" I'd be impressed!) or that the first film he references is THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. WTF.

(That said, neither the Metallica nor Guns N Roses albums are COMPLETELY horrible. In fact, I kind of *wish* they were even worse; they'd be more fun to talk about that way.)

Date: 2008-12-10 03:23 pm (UTC)still surprised at how they repped her so much more over Duffy. i am going to buy Music Week this week and we'll see what irritants they're grooming for Grammy noms next year.

Date: 2008-12-10 03:25 pm (UTC)I don't care for them much but I'm mystified by why they'd be DESPISED, their name aside.
