[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
You might remember a few weeks ago I posted asking for suggestions for a Poptimists Christmas Compilation.

Well, here it is - all the songs suggested and a few of the least liked to provide the rusty sixpences in the pudding. Can you guess which is which?

TAPE 1 SIDE 1
Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas
The Chrystals - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
Tori Amos - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Eartha Kitt - Santa Baby
East 17 - Stay Another Day
Wham! - Last Christmas

TAPE 1 SIDE 2
Saint Etienne - I Was Born On Christmas Day
Pet Shop Boys - It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas
Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day
Hanson - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Paul McCartney And Wings - Wonderful Christmastime
Shakin Stevens - Rockin Round The Xmas Tree
Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry

TAPE 2 SIDE 1
The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping
Kristin Hersh - Jesus Christ
The Handsome Family - Too Much Wine
Willard Grant Conspiracy - Christmas In Nevada
Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer
John Lennon - Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
Fountains Of Wayne - I Want An Alien For Christmas

TAPE 2 SIDE 2
The Pogues Ft Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York
Mary Margaret O'Hara - Blue Christmas
David Bowie and Bing Crosby - Little Drummer Boy
Chris DE BURGH - A Spaceman Came Travelling
Cliff Richard - Mistletoe And Wine
The Kinks - Father Christmas
Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas (12" Mix)

Is it any better than any other Christmas compilation? No, not really. Would I buy it? Are you kidding! It doesn't even have SLADE on! But that wasn't really the point. Thankyou for your replying and merry wobs one and all.

Best thing about MP = Harry Hill doing Teh Lord's Prayer to the tune of Match of the Day on his Wobs show that year.

Dick n Dom's initial opener when they pop out the cupboard at the start was Santa Baby, with one of them dressed as Santa... IN A NAPPY. DO YOU SEE!!! Santa Baby then jumped in the arms of the other one dressed as a "mum". they are so great

I like the Wizzard Wobs song lots for the same reasons that you like teh Slade, but I am not so keen on teh Slade - except for the "It's Chriiiiiiistmaaaaaaas" bit, which now has iconic status I note. Lots of imitations this year.

heh, I never got around to suggesting anything for this. As long as The Waitresses are in there, I'm not that bothered what else goes on a Wobs comp.

Still, I might yet post some of my favourites, probably on Boxing Day or something just when everybody's thoroughly fed up with Christmas.

How does the Hanson version of "C(BPCH)" compare to Darlene L's?

YSI?

Mariah's Christmas song is her best - one of the few by her I can stomach in fact.

I love Christams Wrapping. Here's a short, short Xmas film I made that uses part of it for a soundtrack.

Please share the link with EVERYONE because the film will be out of season in a week and I'll be expected to retire it.
