Have to leave five minutes ago, but of course there are many different ways of being a pop star. Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood are pop stars. When I was a young man, the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt were pop stars.
This doesn't mean that we shouldn't talk about what makes someone a pop star, of course.
