A small but potentially fruitful week - last.fm Poptimists favourites MGMT score their first hit, Nelly returns (with Fergie in tow), etc.

And Madonna is #1 incidentally.

[Poll #1174662]

Orgafun news: Switzerland v Turkey in Europop 2008 has got quite a few less votes than usual - it's open for a little bit longer so go here and vote if you haven't already...

Goldfrapp - sorry luv, I still don't really like the Flaming Lips.

Kanye & Dwele - this is the one with the bonkers video where the lass kills him with a spade isn't it? Love the electro house beats on it, botherd about Kanye's rapping but it's not hindering the verp-verp any so a big ol' TICK from me.

MGMT - Aiyick, I'm not sure about that stylophone riff... Interesting video (points for nu-rave zebras) but this is even more Flaming Lips-y than the Goldfrapp. It's very... plodding?

Nelly & Fergie - Ferg is on a swing (http://youtube.com/watch?v=D4dcTshug2g)! This is still pretty good but it's still sub-par for both N and F. Borderline tick, mainly for Fergie's slowed-down vocoder rap.

Goldfrapp - this is the worst thing on her album, NO TICKY.

Kanye - not heard this yet, may go back and tick but I've never really liked anything he's done so its unlikely NO TICKY.

MGMT - this has grown on me a bit since it appeared in the last scene of Skins (surely the point of including it) but argh god it IS just the Flaming Lips without Wayne Coyne or the annoying lyrics. Which makes it better, I assume. MARGINAL NO TICKY.

Nelly & Fergie - best thing Nelly's done since at least Hot In Herre, I love the interplay between the two voices and the pitched down Fergie bit. TICK.

I can't really explain how come i like 'Happiness' as much as i do - one of my favourites on the album and i was pleased to see that youtube clip ft Rex The Dog and the remix version sounds nice, gives it that complimentary greatness his remixes always do (The Knife etc.).

Goldfrapp's various appearances in costume in the video (inc policewoman) have no bearing on my opinion let me assure you.

anyway the song is ridiculously twee but it's all too easy to assume that AG is taking the piss ("give us all your money we'll..make it better") tho the rest of the song seems at odds with this. i actually like the 'which approach would be worse' dilemma that comes from that. it wouldn't matter if the production wasn't sublime which it is esp. the section before the chorus and big instrumental break.

Weird, I think all but Kanye are marginal nonticks, yet I kind of want to tick all of them. I will let MGMT get a tick on their one good song, I guess. "Party People" disappointing -- actually wouldn't mind hearing this on the radio, but I'll opt for his background turn on "5,000 Ones" instead. Terrible chop/screw mgmt, feels shoehorned. (Actually everything feels shoehorned.)

Post needs tag.

I only noticed cos I want to go back and tick Madge from an earlier week, which has now won me over.

Goldfrapp on the edge of a tick but just a little bit too wispy. MGMT, OTOH is a clear tick, a great song that I have been playing for weeks.
