The Pop Open!

As promised, the last Round 3 Pop Open fite is here. Go get the tracks at http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2008/04/pop-open-week-2525/ and vote below, or hear them at http://poptimists.muxtape.com - which also contains ALL TWELVE Round 3 tracks in mixtape form for yr enjoyment. I think both these last tracks are pretty awesome so don't miss out.

[Poll #1168256]

Thanks very much to everyone who entered the Pop Open! If there's demand, I will run a final round of it for the winners of the various Round 3 fites (who include: [livejournal.com profile] mackromackro, [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti, [livejournal.com profile] stevem78, [livejournal.com profile] cis and [livejournal.com profile] hauntedballroom). If there's not, this is it. Audio Orgafun continues at Freaky Trigger in the Europop 2008 competition, and the League Of Pop may return in the Autumn or Winter.

If this does end up being the last week of the Open, then it's certainly a way to go out in style. I think this is one of the strongest pairings of the competition so far, and it was quite a tough choice knowing to go for.

When it's that close it's the little things that swing it for me - the "ooo-oos" in the chorus of Track 11 help push it ahead, whereas the fact that I can almost but not quite make out most of the lyrics on Track 12 irritate me ever so slightly.

That was my initial reaction to track 12 - the wildness, the katebushness drew me into the song, and hearing the odd word made me really want to hear what she was on about, it feels like it's a song where the lyrics matter (i'm not normally a big lyrics fan) and then it pissed me off when i couldn't actually work most of them out.

Track 11- nice, like the slightly throaty aspect to her voice. I recognise the voice, in fact but not enough to say it's not just a vocal similarity to someone else. Sweetly bouncing tune goes well with the sunlight coming thought my window. V. good.

Track 12- This one is interesting, I like the Western (as in cowboy film) feel, faintly reminds me of the wombles for reasons I don't care to analyse. Feels romantic, in a non-sexual way. Would do well if I played it at indie soc, I think. I like her voice on the chorus. Unfortunately my housemate came and had a go at me re: leaving crumbs in the kitchen (crumbs! in a kitchen! surely not!) halfway through so I became misanthropic towards the world.

Not sure which to vote for, though.

I'm kind of ho-hum on these, though I like them.

Track Eleven - Good steady r&b with more of a roll-along rock rhythm than actual charting r&b achieves these days. (In fact, this'd probably be classified as pop rather than r&b.) The singer is sort of a more bruised but far less distinctive Kara DioGuardi type. Nice, but could use a stronger melody.

Track Twelve - Flumping, tumbling drums and full-of-shit Alanis-Kate type womby singer. (Not sure if "full of shit" is a compliment or an insult here.) The guy is an OK droner. The rhythm holds his back, but it's more got more character than the previous track. Is it better? I'm not sure. I've already ticked Eleven, but I might reconsider.

The rhythm holds this back, not his back. (In fact, it lets go of his back, to his and its detriment.)

Isn't Anatol into the final round too, or is this Anatol's fite that we're listening to right now?

If you ever posted reveals for Tracks Seven through Ten, I missed them (except I went and searched out the Paragons, who did the awesome Track Ten, which is one of my favorite tracks ever in all of Orgafundom).

I'm liking these two tracks more now, and still not sure which I should vote for.

I thought this fite was anatol vs umlauts.

I liked both of these on first listen. 12 seems to offer more in the way of things I've not heard before (in this configuration anyway), so I've gone with that for now. But I may yet change my mind. The backing to 11 is beautifully crafted.

That is correct. Not saying anything else for now obv. :)

Upon hearing your track, I became not very confident! Not saying anything else for now obv either! :)
