Pop Open 00s Group REVEALED - Plus Round 3 Details

Reveals and reviews below the cut:

Track One: Noze - "Remember Love" - supposedly this is some kind of dance anthem which leads me to suspect that the world of dance has got a bit perverse, anyway I like the combination of half-speaking and house piano and this definitely sticks in the head. A good shout for a share of the points but this is a strong field.

Track Two: Riskay - "Smell Yo Dick" - maybe I should pay more attention to the blogosphere if this is the kind of thing it likes. Obviously the hook here is the combination of gorgeous melody and purest filth. Immediate impact helps it to second place at least.

Track Three: Pendulum - "Hold Your Colour" - every now and then I think "god maybe I've been wrong about drum and bass" - this is one of those times. While the drums still sound like pretty basic jump-up stuff, the layering of systems music pianos and shoegazey hooks on top really works and this one is probably my top pick.

Track Four: Glass Candy - "Candy Castle" - the weakest link here - good blank electro atmospherics and a nice voice but no real hooks to speak of.

The poll is running until MONDAY LUNCHTIME. You can hear the tracks at http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/11/the-pop-open-week-14/

[Poll #1092507]

And then it's on to ROUND 3! These are a series of unthemed - i.e. you can pick anything you like - one-on-one contests, which I will be putting out at a fair clip I hope. I will put the fites up in the order I get both tracks, so send one to leagueofpop@gmail.com ASAP (not counting the 2 qualifies from the 00s group, unless they're specially confident innit) MP3 format please!

FITES will be as follows - this may or may not affect yr choice of track.

OMG one of the ones I didn't submit was in my top 6 of tracks I considered submitting!

And I like it better than the one I DID submit - but didn't think it would do as well. WE SHALL SEE.

I know none of these, at least not by name.

I do remember thinking that in the Pop World Cup if I had been the USA I would have chosen a Spanish-language banda-hip-hop hybrid; and if I had been doing the '00s for this I would have chosen almost anything other than "modernistic" sounding and techno, which sound very 1950s to me anyway. Or 1960s, anyway. Might have chosen something by Miranda Lambert about killing one's boyfriends.

I actually have four or five Glass Candy tracks off that "Italians Do It Better" comp, which I like reasonably well. I'll have to go back and listen again.
