My Bloody Valentine

They've reformed, they're touring, they're putting a new record out.

1. Do you care?
2. Were they ever pop?
3. If not why not?
4. What's yr favourite MBV song?

THE CHORD

[identity profile] carsmilesteve.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
1. yes
2. well kind of, almost like a particular extreme (not quite the right word) of what indie-pop could be with one particular knob* turned up to 11
3.
4. it's probably actually "soon" as a late doors loveless fan, rather than isn't anything, but seventeen minutes of You Made Me Realise age 17 was pretty mind-blowing (unlike the other blur fans i did not flee!)

*yes, yes insert kevin shields is a knob jokes here ;)

ALSO

they killed Creation Records, how much more POP could they be ;)

YES. Were they ever not? n/a. They only have 1 song, obv, and it's a good un.

(real answer To Here Knows When)

killing Alan McGhee?

1. i do not really care altho i will listen to their new material and hope it interests me.
2. yes because my main memory of them is hearing Bruno Brookes introduce 'Swallow' on the top 40 show. And maybe a snippet of 'Soon' on The Chart Show. obv. they are none more nindie at the same time.
3. n/a
4. Weatherall remix of 'Soon' altho i love the original just as much i guess - not so fussed about ANY OTHER MBV

'Weatherall remix of 'Soon' '

i.e. Weatherall invented Big Beat exhibit 17

i think i saw this on snub tv and it changed me somehow

[identity profile] boyofbadgers.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Yes, though I ph34r it will all be a bit of an anticlimax.
2. Yes, for the seven minutes of Soon at least.
4. Three way tie for You Made Me Realise, Soon and Come In Alone.

Yes, I'd see MBV play live. That'd be nice.

They are pop in as much as they wrote pop songs, but they weren't pop in the sense of charts and stuff. They are pop in my world.

My favorite MBV song is "Only Shallow," or maybe "Soon."

[identity profile] boyofbadgers.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, it prob comes as no surprise that I hate that remix!

[identity profile] damnspynovels.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Very much so.
2. Absolutely and completely.
3. n/a
4. Soon or Only Shallow.

[identity profile] damnspynovels.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
it's awful...! here we go, uh-huh...

[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
this may even be the song i've listened to most ever. christ.

They had a top thirty hit in the UK with To Here Knows When. Which STILL seems weird, despite their huge popularity amongst most of my friends at the time.

1: all live music is evil
2: of course they are pop, here is what i listened to on my walkman while at wire: mbv, gnr, msp, hole, cocteaus, stones, beatles and i THINK THAT'S IT
3: n/a
4: it is all one mystic unending note to me

[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
wrt 1) i DO care, but no i will not go to see them live. i didn't at the time. i have enjoyed EXTREEEEME music live in the past - a couple of stereolab gigs spring to mind. but i think that time where i'd pay for that and being in a crowd of other ppl are gone.

1. My ex-boyfriend at college was somewhat obsessed with them (to the extent of crate-digging for early demo rarities etc), I tend to associate 'Loveless' with being very very drunk and sh1tting myself about not being able to understand ANY of my degree.
2. Not sure - they seemed to make music for the joy of *making* it, rather than the joy of *listening* to it. But it was good to listen to as well. I dunno.
4. I don't know what they're CALLED, jebus :) Er I like track 1 off the first album a lot.

Slightly delirious from flu

I am worried my expectations are so high that it will almost inevitably be a disappointment, esp. since meddlesome parts of brain are starting to treat it as a portal to my past self or something equally bananas. BUT I don't want to risk missing something potential wonderful. I missed the Daydream Nation gigs out of poorly thought out vague principles and have been kicking myself ever since.

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't think i really do care. so many people i know love them, as do a lot of the techno dudes i love these days, and i haven't really given them a fair try - i have heard one of their albums on in the background once, i thought it was like enya but with guitars instead of vox, ie a bit worse but not unpleasant, but still dull. if i am in that sort of 'mood' these days i have burial to serve my purposes! i mean, i guess i vaguely want to see what the fuss is about, but not enough to actually do anything about it. i certainly don't care that they're reforming! no one should reform! why is everyone reforming these days? that sucks, and it sucks that people get excited about it.

[identity profile] miss-newham.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
1. No! I cared deeply up until about 1995!
2. Surely not.
3. Because Steve Wright will never play their singles.
4. Hmm. Actually, these days it's probably their cover of 'We have all the time in the world', and then 'Soon'.

[identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
why does indie kids never want to hypnofunk?

[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
4 YES. it is an album called Loveless - there are no tracks.

[identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"they're putting a new record out"
You don't seriously believe THAT one, do you?

1. Not really. If Debbie and Bilinda are both in the line up then maybe.
2. Yes of course.
3. -
4. "Feed Me With Your Kiss"! (or "Soon")
