(W)here are the young men?

All the crowds queuing for Emo bands and the like seem to be mostly gurls. Amy and Lily and Mika and the other falling-behind-the-zeitgeist (see previous poptimist, er, 'thread'??) seem all quite girly audienced.

Yes there's lots of pop stuff for the young ladies, but... what are young men boys listening to these days?

I think my comment on this very topic must have got lost in the 50+ threading!

They are listening to Bloc Party and the Killers.

Yes my 13 y.o. nephew likes The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Fratellis. Also early rock'n'roll for some reason.

they are either in the emo bands and getting laid, or listening to the sound of the girls they fancy being laid by boys in emo bands. It is truly a cruel world.

Indie - haircut or otherwise.

Actually I'd hazard a guess that the London based kids old enough to go out clubbing (or at least pass for 18) are probably all about the nu-rave electrobosh. This is based on circumstantial evidence based on waiting at the bus stop on York Way on Friday/Saturday nights watching the kidz walk up to Canvas. Dance/electro definitely seems to be cross-gender.

As I don't actually *know* any teenagers I feel a bit unconfident in this speculation. They're probably all dancing the night away to some new undiscovered genre us grown-ups can only dream of.

i think yr missing a key point here alan:

All the crowds queuing for Emo bands and the like seem to be mostly gurls

surely YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE between the boys and the gurls with all that makeup and big hoodies and angular hair...

Judging by the "young men boys" that get on the bus with their headphones turned up too loud, a lot of filthy phat rap, all of which is too explicit to be eligible for the charts!

Xenomaniaakis, I hope.

The ones I know like 'proper' rock music, whatever that is. Anything that girls or trend-followers are not 'hardcore' enough for.

I think it depends on what the individual defines as 'proper' rock music. Also a lot of boys in Oxfordshire, where I grew up, were into drum n bass and unchavvy unpoppy dance music.

As I said in t'other thread to [livejournal.com profile] katstevens, from my dodgy demographic evidence, the boiz at Aberystwyth like the following-

-Wobbly indie like A Silver Mt. Zion etc.
-Justice and Simian Mobile Disco and Sebastien et al
-Hard trance, techno, drum and bass, psy trance, etc.
-Metal but they think Bullet For My Valentine are metal so NEVERMIND
-Metal which is actually metal
-Bright Eyes, Elliot Smith, Jack Johnson, Sufjan Stevens etc. BORING BORING BORING
-Welsh language rap (Pepe Le Pew etc.)
-Trip Hop eg: Mr Scruff
-Pop music eg: Girls Aloud, Amy Winehouse, Steps, etc. Not just "the gays," either.
-CHEESE. Oh god I have never heard so much Bon Jovi etc. I had forgotten all about this! It is what boys really like I suspect.
-Angry rap music.

All of those groups intermix because Aber is largely free of prejudice except we really do hate

wtf my new web browser is pants.

...we really do hate US rap/r'n'b etc. I am sorry to say.
