[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
I got both Week 9 zipfiles sent off in the end, so will post those later.

Week 10 sees the current leaders of BOTH leagues sit in judgement - very important for their title rivals to get their tracks right, then! Luckily [livejournal.com profile] inhibitorylinks and [livejournal.com profile] koganbot have provided intros to help you...

[livejournal.com profile] inhibitorylinks says: "Hello there. I am Scott! I am a 24yo male, living in Sydney Australia. Psychologist by trade, make of that what you will. Classically-trained pianist, which, as it turns out, has some implications for my taste in music. I like:

- Pop that is very obviously influenced by classical or jazz (esp. big band) music, whether in the melodies, samples, structure or instrumentation;
- Pop that might be very light on melody or structure, but keeps me hooked due to nifty production, attitude, and the sound of people having fun (most of Beyonce's recent output, for example);
- I don't have my licence and I burn very easily, but I love songs that make me think of summer and driving down a country road in a car with an open top;
- Waltzes, or songs in 6/8 time, or songs with a glam rock stomp;
- Bluegrass music with crazy instrumental sections and/or fragile-sounding female singers.

All v. wordy sorry, but basically I'm up for a surprise!"

[livejournal.com profile] koganbot says: "I'm Frank, 53, music critic, live in Denver, a city on the western edge of the Great Plains by the Rockies. My favorite singer right now is Ashlee Simpson, who a couple of years ago as a bruised-voiced, vulnerable teenager sang, "Life is good; I've got more than anyone should," which is an inherently uneasy sentence not just because of her obvious pain but also 'cuz there's no way to reconcile the good and the should. Five things I love are (1) '80s freestyle (male Latino disco producers surrounding heart-rending women with crazy fierce beats and catchy doubled-up riffs), (2) '60s garage rock/'early '70s glitter-punk (Question Mark, Stooges, Electric Eels: music with more space and edginess and less of a monolithic eight-to-the-bar stomp than the stereotyped punk sound that came along in the wake of the Ramones and Sex Pistols), (3) early '60s girl groups (dancing and wailing and broken-hearted), (4) '80s tuneful Europop/Eurodisco, (5) hip-hop early to mid '80s and hip-hop late '90s to now, esp. dirty south stuff that's not afraid of club beats. My tastes have been fairly consistent but are hard to predict because often what I love dies in one genre and is born in another, sounding totally different. Generally can't stand revivalists. (So my liking the Stooges then means I like Lohan now and I'm meh about thrash and alternative and hardcore punk.)"

Nominate using the poll below, and tracks, as ever, to leagueofpop@gmail.com - or I can hunt out your nominations but this is a chancier prospect for several reasons.

[Poll #975928]

Good luck! Also look out later today for the probable announcement of summer orgafun.
