What is bosh?

As the resident poptimists bosh expert I have been solicited to provide a definition. The first mistake people make is assuming that 'bosh' and 'bosh remix' have the same meaning.

boshing adj*.
1. Possessing of an enjoyable up-tempo beat that inspires the listener to get up and strut their funky stuff, or indeed wave their arms in the air like they just do not care. Said beat must be pounding but, although veerp veerp noises are common they are not mandatory. It is not necessary for an entire song to be boshing.
usage: 'The chorus to this tune is well boshing, I'm going mental!'

bosh n. Any song that could be described as 'boshing' (see above).
usage: 'I am totally going to play some bosh at Poptimism innit.'

bosh remix n.
Eurobeat or rave version of a pop song that would not normally be classified under one of the aforesaid genres. Possessive of high bpm 4/4 beat, alternative vocal mix (usually sung by a non-English-speaking female). For example, one could not satisfactorily make a bosh remix of 'No Limits'. This is because one cannot improve upon perfection. Although other genres may be boshing (see above) their attempts at pop song conversion are usually misguided.
usage: 'This is well good bosh remix of that Meatloaf track, score!'

Am I right? Let the debate commence!

*It might be a verb. It ends in 'ing'! But it is a describey word not a doing word so I put adj. Fear my langwich skeelz.

I am satisfied by the distinction, with Bosh Remix being the genre and bosh just generic term.

Well, eurobeat is the genre really (the most common one, I agree). I think a bosh remix can be rave as well, but not something like techno where its all got a bit more serious. If that makes sense. e.g. I would classify as Rage's 'Run To You' as a bosh remix even though it is rave and not eurobeat.

I think 'Run To You' is actually closer to Eurobeat than Rave, in that it's closer to East Side Beat's 'Ride Like The Wind' than it is to, say, Altern 8. The trouble with the Rave umbrella is that it attracts all kinds of different dance tracks within it (tho you can argue this as a good thing also).

Attempting to define Rave specifically would be even more difficult than doing so for Bosh, however.

Yes, I was about to note that I felt quite confident about what 'bosh' was before reading this thread, and would be utter rubbish at the distinctions you two are making above.

Slight change in wording of your definition of "bosh remix" (additions in bold type):

Eurobeat or rave version of a pop song - in 90% of cases by Bon Jovi - that would not normally be classified under one of the aforesaid genres.

Also, mustn't there be an excellently, expressively naff element for something to be truly bosh? (This assumes that I have some idea what "naff" means, which may be untrue.) Extra points for a "rap" by someone for whom English is at most a third language.

(Also, I would probably eliminate "rave" and make this strictly Eurobeat, unless the rave is suitably naff. Except there can be an occasional bosh track (not necessarily a remix) that can be r&b and have nothing to do with Eurobeat, but only if the track is by Teena Marie and mentions Maya Angelou, and is great.)

Oh, I forgot Tiffany, who's neither Eurobeat nor r&b, but whose "I Saw Him Standing There" is ultimo-bosh (and is far better than "I Think We're Alone Now").

Not necessarily a cover version. On Bonkers 18 there is are TWO songs both called 'Torn' both claiming to be written by Natalie Imbruglia - I don't think either of them could be classified as a cover. A 5 second sample used once is probably enough!

Ah well that classifies as bosh then, if it is just a song that is boshing it doesn't need to be Eurobeat etc. See item 2! I think I am confusing everyone a little.

No, you're not confusing us, you're giving a model and we're figuring out how to apply it more generally - boshdom being an ethos of its own, it need not be tied to a particular genre (which contradicts my sentiments above about removing rave - I was wrong; "rave" can be whatever one plays at raves, right? like early disco was whatever they played at discotheques, early hip-hop was whatever was played at hip-hop clubs (incl. Monkees and Rolling Stones and Kraftwerk), etc. - though maybe they had to be played in a hip-hop manner).
