Top 40 Singles Of 2006 Poll #12: December

Now if you get a flu attack, for thirty days you're on your back...either way there's no excuse for not filling out the December Top 40 singles poll. A last chance to rate the hit parade before it all goes pear-shaped with unreleased downloads, re-entries via TV exposure etc. - it's been wonderful, truly. Final table of results will be published next week. All Saints 'Rock Steady' topped the November poll with just a piffling 16 ticks.

is this a "which if any are any good at all?" or max number of tixor?

[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
oh piff. i don't want to even tick GA and lily :-(

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I think its one of Lily's best songs on the album.

Ugh no. The strings clash horribly with the melody at times. It all sounds so disjointed.

[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
i like it a lot, but i'm feeling too apathetic today. and i'd rather have a clean sweep :-(

Yes, keep doing the polls but only count new chart entries. eg if EMI releases Beatles-a-go-go in March then they are fine for March's poll but can't appear in April's poll as well, even if they are still in the chart, and even if there is NOTHING ELSE in the Top 40.

I don't mind having a go!

I might change the format tho :)

Something....else.

[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually I will email you.

And just as I get access to British music tv again and have a chance of hearing some of this stuff...

Where is Bodyrox & Luciana? Or did that first chart in November? If so, I must go back and tick it there.

[identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Now ticked. Also Cassie's "Long Way 2 Go", another one I only heard for the first time yesterday. The latter will benefit slightly more from the extra tick.

MCFLY

I think this is their best song to date.

I agree, or at least that it's their best single cus there's one track on 'Wonderland' and one on their new one that I rate higher but yeah, definitely the best single. I think MITO's their best album to date, too- shame about the completely and utterly terrible name. :(

Perhaps... a Mcfly CANON?

Yes!

my first unticked section in the top 40 polls :(

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks entirely to the disappointing CRAPNESS of the Jamelia and Gwen singles. The Jamelia one is really awful, I don't know why people like it (well I DO but I prefer not to think about it). The Gwen I thought would do a HUMPS and grow on me after the initial shock but yodelling aside it's actually just really boring.

'Personal Jesus' is still great! But the sample completely dominates Jamelia and the song itself is pretty lame; it's basically her worst single and yet it's treated like some kind of pop pinnacle just because people recognise the tune!

Re: my first unticked section in the top 40 polls :(

[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like Jamelia just doesn't handle that song well. The production's wrong- they should have made it prowl, not stomp, to go with her voice, in my opinion. She just sounds kind of like she's trying to shout to be heard over the backing as it is. It's one of my least favourite tracks off her new album. :(

I agree about 'Wind It Up,' although it also makes me cringe in places.

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that's exactly what's wrong with 'Beware Of The Dog' - it totally doesn't play to Jamelia's strengths, it's this clumsily wacky quick-follow-'SOS'-bandwagon pop song where no thought whatsoever has been given to who's going to sing it. Jamelia does light, dreamy stuff very well, and she's good at subtle and quite emotional microdrama, but stompy and feisty? No.

"Wind It Up" went quite quickly from 'this doesn't quite work' to one of my favourite singles of the year.

It is in some ways quite a troubling song. Speaking as a parent.

Rly like "Beware of the Dog" too tho not quite as much as I did on first listen.

Cascada >>>> Savage Garden

Tho this isn't saying much.

[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I only ticked about five things. :(

[identity profile] raw-patrick.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I ticked NOTHING!
