I Love #1's - 1985
Dec. 6th, 2006 01:02 pmThrow your hands up at me! Last week you picked Destiny's Child as your top number one of 2000, just pipping Kylie and Britney with 36 ticks. Unsurprisingly Westloife were shunned by you all. This week - oh man! Could this be the best year for number ones that we've had so far? Just typing it out has had me going "OMG!" every two seconds. 1985, people!
[Poll #883082]
*left off from the 1986 poll. For shame!

Date: 2006-12-06 01:30 pm (UTC)America-land
Date: 2006-12-06 01:37 pm (UTC)Foreigner - "I Wanna Know What Love Is"
Wham! featuring George Michael - "Carless Whisper"
REO Speedwagon - "Can't Fight This Feeling"
Phil Collins - "One More Night"
USA for Africa - "We Are the World"
Madonna - "Crazy For You"
Simple Minds - "Don't You (Forget About Me)"
Wham! - "Everything She Wants"
Tears for Fears - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"
Bryan Adams - "Heaven"
Phil Collins - "Sussudio"
Duran Duran - "A View to a Kill"
Paul Young - "Every Time You Go Away"
Tears for Fears - "Shout"
Huey Lewis & the News - "The Power of Love"
John Parr - "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)"
Dire Straits - "Money for Nothing"
Ready For the World - "Oh Sheila"
a-ha - "Take on Me"
Whitney Houston - "Saving All My Love for You"
Stevie Wonder - "Part-Time Lover"
Jan Hammer - "Miami Vice Theme"
Starship - "We Built This City"
Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin - "Separate Lives"
Mr. Mister - "Broken Wings"
Lionel Richie - "Say You, Say Me"
Not very much overlap at all (only Whitney Houston, and inevitably "We Are the World"). "West End Girls" also hit #1 in 1986 in America, so that's an overlap too, I guess. I'd say the USA list has more really great songs but also more terrible songs. Overall probably a win for Britain.
As for the quality of the year, 1986 was much better for #1's, at least in America.
