"I wear the big headphones"
Aug. 17th, 2006 05:11 pmL@@K one of my favourite Russian tennis players is a) blogging and b) has ace taste in pop music! This is v refreshing after years of being disappointed to find that tennis players I'd hitherto thought of as cool were in fact propping up Sting or Green Day's careers. The young generation are changing everything.
Talk about other sports people who have good or notable taste in pop, if you want.
So after writing to you guys last night, I got ready and went to the Mariah Carey and Sean Paul concert. It was pretty good. My seats weren't that great; I wish I could have seen them from closer and lower down, but still it was really good quality. Mariah's voice was really good, as was Sean Paul. I went to the concert with Alicia Molik, one of my best friends on the Tour. She and Elena Likhovtseva are my two very good friends on the Tour. Anyways, Alicia and I really liked how good the dancers were when Sean Paul was on the stage. I'm looking to get some dancing classes for this kind of dancing someday!
I just saw that on August 26th there's a Pussycat Dolls concert here; it's a little close to the US Open, but I may fly back here to see it. I really like their songs with Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes. I like Rihanna a lot. I love R&B style music. My new favourite song is Deja Vu by Beyoncé and Jay-Z. They are unbelievable. It's very good to exercise to this music! It's very motivating.
I have plenty of iPods and mp3 players. I always have them with me, I'm always changing the songs around. And I wear the big headphones because music should be heard in very good quality. I also have a video iPod because I love music videos. Before coming here I had more time to download all of my music and videos but not anymore, so now my best friend in Spain does all my downloading for me. I have like 1500 songs on my mp3 player. I always listen to music. I can't imagine my life without always listening to it. It pumps me up.
...
I'm already having fun doing this blog. Sometimes there are things, like music, that I just can't stop talking about. But, I think I'll stop here for now.
I'll talk to you all after my match!

Date: 2006-08-17 04:27 pm (UTC)The vexed matter of sports people and music is interesting to me though! When I was a young INDIE KID there was a special football issue of the NME which caused ENORMOUS uproar and controversy, ftb i) half of the readers were weeds and wets who hated foopball, ii) footballists had NOTORIOUSLY poor (by NME standards) taste in music. This was before it became cool for indieists and middle class people to like football i.e. well before I liked it, so I was on the side of Andrew Collins who led the chorus of disdain.
I now wish I had kept that issue (May 1989 sometime) as I suspect it would be of huge interest to the likes of Boyler.

Date: 2006-08-17 04:35 pm (UTC)It's funny, I totally conflate indie and football in my mind. Kaiser Chiefs indie rather than Cat Power indie of course.
The Grau sports section has a regular feature on what sports people are listening to - it's never really very interesting.
I once saw another Russian, Tatiana Panova, practising at Wimbledon in a PJ Harvey T-shirt!

Actually, wasn't one of the Spanish midfield of the early 00s really into, like, Yo La Tengo and Neutral Milk Hotel and stuff? I wanna say Mendieta, but that just seems wrong.
