The controversial Now 60 brings us into 2005. Controversial? Apparently so as the official Now site DOES NOT LIST ITS DETAILS. Looking at the tracklist you might - well I might - say it's not a vintage comp, but there's enough chewy material here to provide some good comments box sport.

"Love Machine" was Girls Aloud's first winner after several near misses - it won by 11 ticks over its nearest Scissor-shaped rivals. And "Some Girls" beat "Hey Ya" in the play-offs for Now 58.

Especially if Ciara is beaten by the Killers.

The Gwen single is rubbish, really.

Verbalicious rocks. What a shame she's not done anything else chart-wise since. I've got another song of hers (New Kid) which is almost as good. Anyone know what's happening with her?

"What You Waiting For?" is basically the same song as "Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile)", right? Are there any other "I'm the star of this band guys" tracks out there?

I thought Athlete were great up to this point, but nobody believes me when I say that now.

(though I'm still ticking it as they really pushed out the boat in depressingness.)

Are you suggesting that the first third is immune from such criticism? I think I may well have ticked more from the second and third parts than from the first. But then I only ticked about 5 songs in total, so that's not that impressive either.

1. Her voice is terrible, it's this atrocious honking instrument
2. The opening sounds like Hash Pipe by Weezer, as is well documented
3. Her voice as at is atrocious honking worst right over the bit that sounds like Weezer

My Bloc Party appreciation is well-documented and this is their best song, mostly for the build and release over the last minute or so. It reminds me of shimmery minimal house in this regard.

(Cue sound of Lex spluttering uncontrollably)

funny that as i really dislike "Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile)" but adore "What You Waiting For?"

Have you heard the version from the remix album? It makes the build and release bit work even better.
