Last week this very community declared that Steve Harley & his Cockerny Rebellion and those Swedish songsters ABBA were on equal footing as the best number one of 1975 (see below for the tie-breaker)! Your main poll action however today features the Golden Pop Year of 1986:

It's one of Wham's best moments. Madness.

But I'm more concerned that people have voted for the Housemartins, Chris De Burgh & Boris Gardener. Awful the lot of them. HAVE YOU NO EARS, PEOPLE?

one last time might be forever
don't you tell me lies
it just a matter of something
that my heart is looking for a home

YEAH YEAH YEAH, NANA NANANA

it is the song that provided me with a POP EPIPHANY, which i may detail one day...

it is infinitely better than both young guns and whan rap before we go ANY further.

there are also very very few examples of a bad motown pastiche in pop

Young Guns and Wham Rap have more IMPACT (on me)

The Edge Of Heaven just sounds 'this'll do' to me - what might I be missing? this is only based on my memory of it - not heard it for quite a while - can only remember the chorus.

This is the most Boshable poll ever, by the way. Every single track on this works/would work.

I hate all of those. The only Wham! records that are any good at all are "Wake Me Up etcet" and "Everything She Wants".

I know! It's the song that 'Wake me up before you go-go' should have been! (That made more sense in my head, but oh, you know...)

It was fine as a sketch on the programme. Didn't really work in The Pop Marketplace so to speak.

Does anyone have an mp3 of "I've Never Met A Nice South African"? I'm intrigued to know how that stands up today. (Not at all, probably. But I'm curious)

I thought my friend had made up The Chicken Song and it was NOT A REAL SONG.

First song I heard on the radio this morning: Home Thoughts From Abroad by Clifford T Ward. Man, that's a stinker.

WHAT THE HELL AM I ON ABOUT ?!? I was thinking of 'Planet Caravan', which is a Black Sabbath song... and is great!

I would still like to launch Paul Heaton out into deep space.

It's a version of a song on which he performed. That's reason enough for me.

Slap my thigh and call me General Levy, but i still think Paul Heaton has an amazing white soul voice. I spent my formative years listenign to the Housemartins when I should have been listening to The That, but even so...check out Build, or the gospel covers on tape 1 side 1 of Now That's What I Call Quite Good, which I'd check for the actual track names if builders weren't knocking chunks out of my flat right now...

You see I was with you until this nonsense about Wham Rap!

Wham The Final is one of the greatest greatest hits records EVER. Not a bad moment (apart from Battlestations).

I have been harbouring a plan for a happy hardcore version of Caravan of Love for a while now. Well, when I say plan, I mean "that sentence you've just read".

Yes, it was the follow-up to "Careless Whisper", it's a post break-up number, a bit meandering but there's a real delicacy to it which Yog doesn't often hit.

Perhaps people's memories have been sullied by Gareth Gates.

It deserves ticks for the outfits and the backing singers' dance alone.
