Was pointed towards this incredible incredible blog last week and I have just spent the past three hours immersed in it - '90s R&B Junkie. At first, flicking back, I thought it was just random audio/video reminiscences (all excellent, obv), but it actually started off going through all the 90s R&B No 1 hits, Popular-style. Anyway it is a goldmine of old favourites, rare remixes, the soundtrack to my youth and tracks which passed me by at the time &c &c, and also proof that R&B >>>>> any other genre you care to name.
Sort of related - this isn't a '90s track, but seeing Toni Braxton covered on the blog reminded me of this astonishing work. It's from her last failed comeback, 2005's Libra, and it's rather special: a Rich Harrison production from his golden year, it's the evil twin of '1 Thing' - same cascading drums, but this is the dark, anguished flip to Amerie's giddy thrill.
