There's some free! pop! over at Freaky Trigger: you don't have to fill in any polls or tick anything even. http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2008/07/lets-have-some-music/

It's all from FOREIGN LANDS but no less pop for that.

I've just got back from a week in Istanbul and was really impressed by the state of Turkish pop - everywhere I went I heard it playing, and very little western pop at all. There also seemed to be plenty on telly too, with a real range of styles from Turkish versions of most western styles through to contemporary versions of Turkish music, and everything in between. There was loads to get excited about but here's two for starters:

Tarkan is Turkey's biggest star, best known for Simarik (Kiss Kiss). Here's his latest single, which to me sounds very like Madonna's "Give it 2 Me", although I actually prefer this:

Second up is the lovely singer-songwriter Göksel, with Yarabbi şükür. This is nice quirky pop with a very cute cartoon-video.

I shall be exploring more now I'm back, but generally I was far more impressed with the range of good stuff than I have been with any other european country I've visited recently.
