Following a draw in one of the semi finals we have a three-way clash for the title of "Best Track Ever To Be In A Pazz And Jop Poll". Madge, Missy and Michael - choose wisely!

[Poll #933501]

And that wraps up the era of the monster polls, unless anyone can think of a new idea. But why would they, with the League Of Pop almost upon us (and plenty of canons to be done).

The nutty boys are in town, so don your pork pie hat and jump on board the Night Boat To Cairo!

MADFAX

  • Madness have an average of 0.86 legs per band member (see photo above)
  • One of the saxophone players runs the Dublin Castle and demands that at least 75% of wall space in said drinking establishment must feature signed posters of the band
  • Madness once caused an earthquake in Finsbury Park that measured 4.5 on the Richter Scale
  • Madness are so named because frontman Suggs was (and remains to this day) a rabid fan of the Loch Ness Monster

    [Poll #933532]

EDIT: Just so it doesn't get short shrift, Night Boat To Cairo appears on the Work Rest & Play EP.

The results of last week's Missycanon:

    1. Get UR Freak On
    2. Work It
    3. The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)
    4. One Minute Man [ft Ludacris]

This is one of those situations where what I've written seems ridiculously complex but I think once it gets going will be quite simple and intuitive. We'll see shall we?

    Who’s playing

Each league has 12 players. Every week one of them is the home player and the eleven others are the away players. I will be the "Referee" for all games.

The object of play is to uncover a track that the home player i) doesn’t know already and ii) likes a lot.

Actual lists of players, and a schedule, will be posted in a few minutes.

    How it works:

Every Monday, a ‘match’ is announced on Poptimists, and the home player introduced. The away players then have until Friday to nominate a track (and gmail it to the Referee if possible.)

The referee compiles the resulting CD over the weekend.

The following Monday, the CD is either physically or electronically mailed to the home player. No indication of track ID, or of which away player nominated it, will be given.

The home player then has until Friday to listen to the CD, and post a review on Poptimists. This review determines the scoring. Once the review is posted, the Referee will edit it revealing the track IDs and nominees.

That’s the basics. Further details follow.

Choosing and sending the tracks )

    Writing The Review )

    Does that all make sense?

There are two leagues - the POP PREMIERSHIP and the CHART CHAMPIONSHIP. If you're playing, please remember which you're in! Just to add to the mentalism, I'll be running a game from both each week.

The Pop Premiership includes: alexmacpherson, bengraham, braisedbywolves, dubdobdee, fugitivemotel, hauntedballroom, inhibitorylinks, jel_bugle, katstevens, strange_powers, xyzzzz, zenith. The first home player is xyzzzz

The Chart Championship includes: anthonyeaston, blue_russian, byebyepride, epicharmus, infov0re, jeff_worrell, lisa_go_blind, lockedintheatti, martinskidmore, pireatemoggy, poptasticuk, skillextric. The first home player is martinskidmore

Schedule is as follows. The first date refers to when the initial call for tracks goes up. The second refers to when the reviews and results get posted.

    Full Schedule )

[livejournal.com profile] xyzzzz and [livejournal.com profile] martinskidmore - I'll need a little intro paragraph from both of you, with your top five musical things, please - can you send it to leagueofpop@gmail.com!
