Jeff W. commented yesterday (on the hot topic of DUDLEY DOGG JR) that we were entering [livejournal.com profile] sukrat territory. Well, I disagree: this is more like [livejournal.com profile] sukrat territory. And yet, in a funny way, it isn't...

Dare you open the 14th door? )

I very strongly recommend you download this one - from tomorrow we're into the last 10 days of the advent calendar and I'll be picking my personal Top 10 Wobs favourites, with occasional bonus oddities when there's a song that everyone in the world has (my tastes are pretty trad).

Memes - where do they come from? Where do they do? Where do they come from Cotton Eye Joe? They have to start somewhere and what better place than [livejournal.com profile] poptimists, the LJ pop community without pink background .gifs.

Over the next few weeks you will see a lot of people talking about their favourite records of 2005. They will do an albums list. They might do a singles list. This is all well and good but there's a lot more to music than favourite albums and singles.* So in the bath this morning it struck me - START AN MEME**! about 2005. And see what happens. So here we have it -

Twelve Months, Twelve Questions )

*I have nothing against such lists, I am however bone idle and won't do one myself.
**OK it's presumptuous to call it a 'meme' when nobody has answered it yet but one has to be optimistic.

Tell you what - answer on YOUR OWN LJs and tag people, then comment here with a link to your answers. (Or just answer here if you like!)

Nouvelle Vague - "A Forest"

Bossanova (or pseudo-bossa, like I'd know!) cover of The Cure song whose success lies in the answer it gives to the original's hidden problem: what kind of a mug is Bob Smith if he keeps falling for this vanishing girl anyway? "It's always the same / I'm running towards nothing / Again and again and again" - fair enough, it's a dream, but Nouvelle Vague's version manages to sound dreamy, even better! Their forest is an enchanted wood, not just some subconscious tangle of bassy scrub, genuinely alluring even if the breathy frenchness of the singer is un peu trop.
