Jaysis I'm ruined.

The pop quiz was somewhat of a triumph - £330 in the kitty for charity, pretty good result, bigger things expected of the auction on Friday tho. Nobody got the Bradford fire question; nobody got Chernenko; I think one team got Chumbawamba; nobody got I'd Rather Jack; almost nobody got ABBA; EVERYBODY got Busted, hurrah.

Does anyone want more bits and pieces questions?

Here is a question that's been floating around my brain a bit: is pop music a good medium for self-expression? When I think of records which have some kind of confessional or soul-baring component to them I tend to be thinking of records I think are a BIG BAG OF SH1TE. "Self-expression" isn't exactly the right words here, maybe with conversation I can work towards a better way of phrasing this...

Hands up how many of you know where the UK came in last year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest, held in Lillehammer, Norway?

Yes that's right, we came second, with The Best Is Yet To Come sang by 13 year old Cory Spedding. Well done Cory! A good effort, but obviously not as good as Spain's winning entry, sung by María Isabel. An insurmountable lead of 31 points clinched the title for Maria and Antes Muerta Que Sencilla, which translates as "I'd rather be dead than plain". Quite right Maria. How astute for a 9-year-old.

I can hear some of you grumbling to yourselves: "Why bring up all this now, Kat? I'd almost forgotten about our narrow defeat and the torment associated with it even though we gave Spain 7 points and they gave us 10! You'd better have a good reason!" And I do, dear pop-lovers. This year's contest in Belgium is only 51 days away! This year the UK's representative is Joni Fuller with How Does It Feel, and I think we should give her the support she deserves so we can beat those Spaniards into submission! We can do this by moving to another participating country (for example FYR Macedonia) and voting for her in the usual fashion. 51 days should give us the necessary time we need to up sticks to the former Yugoslavia and arrange for a telephone line to be accessible on the 26th November. National pride is at stake!
