Much as I think the Franz Ferdinand single is pretty poptastic stuff my enjoyment of it was suddenly dented last night when I realised something about that "knew him"/"blew him" bit.

Basically, it's a Placebo lyric, innit?

Some MP3s!

Human League - The Black Hit Of Space - as quoted last week, what an amazing track this is.

NATO - Chorjavon - this is the disco terrorist pop project started by the guy who also put together tATu, it is a bit of a missed opportunity to be honest as while the Arab street pop pastiche sounds pretty hot the beats never quite achieve RAVE LIFTOFF.

Goombay Dance Band - Son Of Jamaica - you've always wanted to hear the follow-up to "Seven Tears"? YES YOU HAVE. Bit of wistful pop in a Boney M style.

Comment if you download, go on do.

interesting article (with handy pronunciation guide) to baile (BAY-lee) funk in sunday's OMM, including an interview with DJ Marlboro who, of course was introduced to us yeeeeeeeaaaaaaars ago by [livejournal.com profile] freakytigger and mentioned more recently here. the thing is the title of our favourite track "Super Popozuda" rather than refering to some great pop thing appears to be about bottoms, if we can interpret this sentence from the bellos article:

Not all Rio funk tracks are about violence. There are a lot about sex, too. Out in Acari, on the distant outskirts of Rio, Valeska, the bleach-blonde lead singer of Gaiola dos Popozudas, - the Birdcage of Big-Butted Babes - is teasing the crowd with their hit 'Vai Mamada'

now i'm not saying that [livejournal.com profile] freakytigger somehow subliminally picked this up, but i'm not aware of him speaking portuganeuse...
